Or my real scenario with EA:
1) Buy BF2142 and expansions over pre-Origin digital download service
2) Reformat computer 4 months later
3) Try to redownload game but I can't
4) EA: "Trololol the download is only good for 3 months. Please repurchase the game, create a new account for the CD key, and start over"
5) Tell EA to bite me and go get the software off the Pirate Bay (Even without a cracker or keygen this is still piracy)

Please tell me I was unjustified and I should have paid for BF2142 twice.

Sounds to me like you should reconsider which games you buy wink.gif. I don't know why you would even consider supporting a company with those type of policies.

Pirating should never be an option because that hurts everyone.

I think I'd rather have the online always then this tag stuff :/

What ? So, if you upgrade your computer by

a) upgrading the GPU to the latest AMD HD 7000 series or the forthcoming Nvidia's GTX 700 series or simply by adding a second GPU to do SLI or Crossfire and by

b) adding more memory, from 4 GB to 8 GB because that is the trend and by

c) adding a second HDD or even an SSD and move the game to it with some NTFS utility program like Steam Mover (or not at all),

and you reach your activation limit ?

Why don't they just restrict that to a motherboard change ?

How is Ubisoft even getting any business with their practices ? I tell you why: because their target audience is not old enough to take a strong stance about it and put simply boycott their games into complete and utter oblivion.

I know some of you have the argument of supporting the game developer, but come on, if the game developers start seeing that the boycott works, they will pressure Ubisoft to change their behaviour, or just end their partnership with them.

I don't see how this could have happened tbh.

I did the same and I've deleted and downloaded 2142 across multiple PCs with the same Origin account? I bought an E-350 Zacate system just a few months ago and installed 2142 on it. I purchased that 2142 in 2007, it says so in the details for the game in Origin.

You buy the game and then can only download it in the three months after you've bought it? I'm almost 100% sure that's not how it does, or ever has worked for any game, so I don't see why 2142 would be an exception.

Seems like you needed to talk to someone who knows what they're doing.

I read the article, I still stand by my opinion. Even if they "fix" it I still think this was put there on purpose.

I agree...it's once again this idiots up top thinking they'll get away with it and yet eventually someone finds out. I swear someone should tell these business heads that if you spend all your time and money on trying to protect your time and money you'll accomplish nothing. Valve has it right and so far no one else seems to understand that. With Steam I get services that make their DRM (which is the best I've seen for better or worse) a nonfactor in deciding whether it's worth risking my money. Other forms of DRM come from failures, people who didn't budget their projects properly, or from a publisher/dev trying to milk the cow dead.

Well considering Settlers 7 and Anno 2070 aren't on console you are going to be missing two extremely superb games. Also who wants to play an RTS on a console when you have a PC? Crazy talk...

Technically, it wasn't pirating. If you already owned the game you are allowed to have a digital backup. Same thing with music, if your disc gets scratched, you can't be sued for re-downloading regardless of means. EA is not required to provide that digital backup, however it's disappointing that they didn't. Now, yes, you can get a call for pirating something, but if you can prove you owned it before you pirated it, it was not illegal because you didn't really pirate it. It's far easier to just burn the install files to a dvd or move them to a external though.

If this is in fact designed to limit the user to 3 hardware changes, then my guess is that Ubi is going to start pissing off the graphics card companies. I see no details of what type of component is regarded as a "hardware change", so this may only affect GPUs, but I would bet that mobo/cpu is also included.
