You buy the game and then can only download it in the three months after you've bought it? I'm almost 100% sure that's not how it does, or ever has worked for any game, so I don't see why 2142 would be an exception.

Seems like you needed to talk to someone who knows what they're doing.
This sounds like it could have happened back when Origin was EA Download Manager. I know when spore came out EA's download service had a 6 month limit on downloads or something. As far as I'm aware they retroactively removed that limit though (I purchased spore when it was in effect, and spore is still available to this day on Origin for me).

But they've never had a policy like that for Origin...

Pirating should never be an option because that hurts everyone.

And that's why people pirate. To not support the developer, yet still enjoy the game. The individual wins and developer loses.

I said it was before Origin. I talked to EA. They said once X months pass, you lose all rights to install the game and must repurchase the game at full price.

Same thing with music, if your disc gets scratched, you can't be sued for re-downloading regardless of means. EA is not required to provide that digital backup, however it's disappointing that they didn't. Now, yes, you can get a call for pirating something, but if you can prove you owned it before you pirated it, it was not illegal because you didn't really pirate it. It's far easier to just burn the install files to a dvd or move them to a external though.

It can still be illegal depending on the disk and the EULA. For instance, you can legally back up media you own. At the same time, you can not break any form of copy protection legally to invoke your legal right to make the back up. This is the current state of DVD's. Your legally allowed to make a backup, but you have no way to do it without illegally breaking copy protection. The power to determine if your can make that legal backup rests in the publisher because they choose to put in copy protection or not. So maybe it's not piracy, but it's still copyright infringement.

Breaking copy protection for fair use may or may not be legal depending upon your country's laws.

For those complaining about EA... Not really sure what happened to you folks and your BF game. I've had EA downloader and an EA account since 2005 - and all my games I've ever had on my account have stayed on my account through each platform change regardless of when I bought the game and have remained down-loadable. In fact I bought 2 booster packs for BF2 (back when you could only by BF 2 on DVD/CD) and they both show the 2006 purchase dates and are fully available, same goes for BF 2142. However, since I lost my BF 2 DVD I bought BF 2 complete on Steam when it was $5 so I no longer need to use/download the boosters on the new platform Origin. Also ANY TIME I've had a key run out of activations I put in my phone number to support they call me back within 5 minutes and I'm up and running again with 5 or 10 more activations on my key, no questions asked. Heck when Bioware's classic server was hacked and you could no longer get your Bring Down the Sky key for Mass Effect 1 - I just called them and they gave me a key so I could play the DLC. They've been nothing but great to me, this is why I'm willing to play their games and use Origin. Also EA is VERY good about getting you a DE-AUTH tool, not many other publishers do this for every game they publish - Arkum Asylum Game of the Year Addition anyone? Thanks Ubisoft.

Only UB game I've ever bought were HAWX and HAWX 2 on PS3 since there is no DRM issues. While I was not a fan of Ubi with their "always on drm" for single player games I could possibly live with it, but when they made save games only save server side and now 3 hardware changes and not entire computer upgrades tied to a motherboard that's just too far.

This is why I haven't bought an Ubisoft game in the last couple years. At this point they'll have to do a complete 180 on this DRM stuff or else I'll just not purchase from them, ever.

Last Ubi game I bough was Far Cry 2 and I enjoyed it, played through twice and on my 3rd.

They need to realize if they don't make DRM fair we can always head to www.thepiratebay.com and get it there.

Hopefully they reverse this stupid shiz and start making good games again.

It's Ubisoft, don't expect them to reverse anything. Even EA seems to take out DRM in future patches for their games, at least via Steam for the most part. There are a lot of developers that do the same thing. Ubi on the other hand....

The last game from Ubisoft I bought was Far Cry 2, on a discount, from Steam. Played it for 3 hours and uninstalled it.

I was wondering if Crysis and Crysis Warhead on Steam still have activation limits; I will be upgrading my computer, and since I've got those two games installed on two more computers, that would make it the 4th installation. I went looking for a de-authorization tool for these games but the official page for it lead nowhere, I'm assuming they removed the activation limits for all versions, not just the Steam versions.

I'm worried about Batman Arkham Asylum though, I also have it on more than one machine. Is there a de-authorisation tool for it ? Or do I just un-install it through Steam ? Having games with different DRM schemes is a headache, even for someone who buys through Steam, because Valve gives other game publishers the freedom to use more DRM in addition to Steam.

How is this even legal?

No games company have the right to tell me what PC I out my game on. I should be able to play my games on any PC that I see fit.

This is pants on head retarded.

If this is how their business model is, I sure hope they price their games appropriately like MS with windows.

OEM vs Retail ect..

Locking a game to one computer, mind = blown.

It makes me laugh how they say ring up and we will give you more activations'....if that's the case then why even bother limiting it?...but then this way they can charge and arm and a leg for the customer service call at least.
