New i5 user: i5 2500k temps (compared to Phenom II)

Thread Starter
I recently changed my system to i5 2500k with AsRock Z68 Extreme 3 Gen 3 and was surprised that the
temperatures are quite higher then what I was used to when running Phenom II CPUs (x3 720 and X4 970).

Now P2 stock cooling was terrible for me ...load around 85C, but when changed to water cooling the load
temps droped to max 36-37C (on both P2 CPUs).

With i5 stock cooling the idle temps were around 40C and the load was from 60-65C ...max core temp was
67C when running OCCT. After I changed to water cooling the idle temps are now 30-35C, and the load temps
are around 40-45C (up to 50C with Intel Burn Test or 46C with OCCT).

Are these temperatures ok? ...this is the stock speed (3.3GHz with 3.7GHz Turbo) ...with everything at default.
Around 10C difference between i5 and Phenom II CPUs.

Sounds about right, I'm running an i5-2500K at stock speeds on the stock fan and I'm getting 40-45C idle (depending on the weather/season) and 60-65C under load.

Seems ok. Remember intel is always hotter than AMD biggrin.gif

Actually, AMD Bulldozer runs much hotter then sanybridge.

i'm running 4.5GHZ on a hyper 212+ 1.32V 35C idle and 65C load.

And TJ max is not 62c
Its 99 .

For 24/7 keep it below 80 ( i prefer 75 )

So you got a lot more room to OC ! thumb.gif

I have the same video card as you and i am just curious if there was a big performance gain once you got 2500k?

To be honest, I don't know. I never ran any benchmarks with Phenom II CPUs.
In addition I mostly play older games so CPU speed is not really an issue.

I intend to re-play Witcher 2 soon so that might show me if there is any noticable difference in framerates, but as I said I never ran any benchmark
to track framerates. Sorry.
