Razer BlackWidow Cord Exposed?

Thread Starter
Ever since I have had my blackwidow keyboard its been wonder but a thing that worries me is the cord has always been crap since day one. The cord that plugs into the computer has always been torn and its split to where I can see shiny grey underneath the braided cord. Should I just cut the cloth braid off of the damn thing? Is the wiring exposed or can I get the braided cloth cord?

Here is a picture I took to show you kinda what its like

http://www.picsend.net/images/310182011602164.jpg

you can see where the cord has been snapped at, the stuff under the braided cloth whatever is crap quality lining.

I'm not 100% sure about the blackwidow, but when that happened to my imperator I just cut the braid off and it was just a black cord underneath.

If it has been like that since day one, then why did you not return it and grab a new one that did not have that problem?

Is the wire kinked or damaged? At the point you're at, I would just cut the mesh off to inspect for damage. Does it still work fine?

The outer part of the cable looks like the only thing damaged. That you can cut off and there is another insulated sleeve on the inside. I was thinking if he likes the look he can always buy the material and make it look pretty once again.

I bought the blackwidow when it first got released off of newegg, I received it and it was damaged during the shipping process (the enter key on the number pad was busted) So I talked to newegg support and they sent me out a brand new one without having to send my damaged one in. Both of the blackwidows cords were like this when I got them but not as bad just a minor kink, they got progressively worse over time.

My keyboard is over a year old unfortunately.

The cord itself acted like it had no bend ability and snapped if you bent it too far. I can tell you I see a silver type material right now under the braid. I dont know if thats the covering you are talking about or if its the wiring itself.

I do not want to say that is the cable. Since I have never peeled back mine to see what is there. Usually though the cables are interwoven since electricity is carried over the wires not through them. That silver portion may be the shield. However what I would do is peel back the braid only to see if it is the braid that is falling apart and not the shield also. If the shield is also broken then you may need to mend that since that can lead to future problems. Though if you do not see interwoven wires then you should be good. You can carefully cut the braid off and replace it. Though from that picture you posted it is a little hard to tell exactly what is going on.

This website has some niffty things however not sure if they are the cheapest:

I can see silver wires so yea I think its completely effed at this point, I believe the shield that protects it if the cloth braid falls apart was the main problem and was a very cheap material as you could not bend it or it would snap like cheap plastic.
