Need new phone, which to get?

Thread Starter
I currently have an iPhone 4 and will be upgrading soon. What I would like is something that would work as a Hotspot with 4G LTE speeds, so that I can get the web on my tablet and laptop when needed. I want a very versatile phone. I "like" my iPhone but do not like being stuck with iTunes.

I was looking at something like the new Droid Razr.

Suggestions, ideas?

If you're on Verizon, Galaxy Nexus. If you can go with a different carrier, go for Sprint's Epic 4G Touch. They're both really good so just a choice between carriers.

The Galaxy Nexus is also planned to be released on Sprint, so there's that option, too... Just some waiting involved.

i have the Galaxy Nexus and i absolutely love it so far. You can use the hotspot feature by just installing a hotspot toggle. Screen is pure sex and it has ice cream sandwich of course!

I switched from the 4s on Verizon to the Galaxy Nexus. I'm kind of disappointed with the battery life right out of the box..even with an extended battery. I get better battery life on 4G and get less than 12 hours on 3G from the extended battery. On 4G yesterday I got 13 hours. This is coming from getting a day and a half on my 4s with my normal operating procedure.

If you walk around with a fully charged backup battery, the Galaxy Nexus would be a great phone.

The screen is great and the 4g is a plus, its probably the FASTEST and SMOOTHEST Android phone I've owned. I've owned a few.. Samsung Moment -> HTC Hero -> Samsung Epic -> Samsung Fascinate -> Droid Charge -> Galaxy Nexus. But the Galaxy Nexus is far from having the best battery life. That is really the only negative to the phone..oh and not having an external SDCard slot.

Whichever one gives you great coverage.

If you can get Verizon, then go for the Galaxy Nexus. Awesome phone. I've got to play with it before and it is beautiful. The battery life is a little short though, as I've heard.
Sprint is also supposed to have the Nexus when they roll out their LTE network. The only problem I see with that is their coverage which is pretty spotty, and their LTE will only be launched in about three cities.
You could also go for AT&T where you could get a Galaxy S2 Skyrocket, or you could wait until the Galaxy Note comes out. I got to try the LTE version of the Note at CES two days ago and it was pretty freaking awesome. Huge high res screen is great, and it only gets better when you test 24mbps on 4G LTE (except the 4G antenna was like 30ft away from the phones and was inside a huge metal building tongue.gif).

Thanks guys! It looks like the Galaxy Nexus is a favorite around here. I'll check that out, as well as the Note. Will the Note be on all carriers or just AT&T? I just got FiOS, so I am leaning on going with Verizon, but that is not set in stone.

What is a hotspot toggle? (That an app?)

I'd go with a Galaxy Nexus, I've had mine since launch and absolutely love it. Another phone you might want to look at is the upcoming Razr Maxx. It's supposed to have incredible battery life, so if you use your phone a ton and won't be near a charger, it might be the phone for you.

You get the Galaxy Nexus, I'll teach you personally how to unlock the bootloader, root the phone, and I'll teach you how to install kernels. Custom kernels will absolutely increase battery life.

The other day, I was on 4G for 12 hours, and my battery life went down to 38%. That's pretty sick, especially all while having an overclock of 1.35 Ghz.

Yeah yeah, having to install a kernel while the phone's battery life should of been that way in the first place.. yadda yadda. This phone is an absolute beast and Android 4.0 is phenomenal. So sleek, so smooth.

I agree get the Nexus if you follow what faMine says the phone is awesome! I don't have the extended battery and i get a full 12 hours on it easy.
