reference 6950 OC help

Thread Starter
Every time I try to OC my 6950's in CF it fails and I get a BSOD. I know that one of the cards can oc, and if I just try to OC the one card it works no matter what. The other card wont oc even 50mhz without BSOD but has 0 errors at stock. Is this just a bad card for OC or am I missing something? I just flashed it using RBE and ATIWINFLASH to 6970 shaders, do I need to give it more voltage to OC? When it freezes it immediately jarbles the screen and BSODS. Here is the BSOD picture, if you need the file just tell me where it is and I will upload that too. Thanks.

Are you using Afterburner, Trixx or what to OC the cards in CF?

Sorry, I am using Afterburner. I have tried to OC using the OC similar cards option and then went back and tried individually, the 1st card works like a boss, the second one just BSOD's immediately either alone or in the pair.

Also the 1 that OC's well is at 1150mV the other one is at 1100mV if that matters.

You will usually need to up the voltage some to get your OC stable, at least this is the case on my reference sapphire 6950.

You can easily increase the voltage to 1.2 safely, that should really help you stabilize your clock. If you have problems there, 1.25v is probably about as far as I would go and be comfortable with using it long term, anything over 1.25 is coming close to red line.

Mine is a sapphire too lol. Would the 50mV help that much, my msi card oc's to 900 1375 no problem with 1150mV would th 50mV allow the other card to man up too?

Make sure both cards are stable with the OC setting then crossfire.

Do exactly this;

Use latest MSI Aterburner 2.2.0 Beta 10. MSI Afterburner 2.20. Beta 10 released

1. Go to regedit (start > search programs and files > "regedit").
2. In drop down menu: find file > type "enableulps".
3. For ALL instances (keep pressing F3) change the "1" value to a "0".
4. Reboot PC.

You must disable ULPS then proceed to enable "unofficial overclocking" and never override Afterburner with Catalyst installation. Make sure each card overclok is stable before put them in crossfire. Power supply and temperature will throttle the clocks and voltage too, affecting performance. Make sure of that for crossfire to work correctly.

That would probably help. I had BSODs on my card until I raised the voltage to ~1.2, and that stabalized me completely. Haven't had a single BSOD since then.

I did that already, I have read a lot of your posts telling people to do that do it was the first thing i did when I installed the card. Lol smile.gif

HOW TO: Enable UNOFFICIAL overclocking mode in MSI AfterBurner
I use Sapphire Trixx, and there isn't a limit to the OC like there is in CCC or afterburner, so I didn't even think of that. If you're using afterburner, follow Ken1649s instructions.
