Its not hard to do, but it will take trial and error. I have never had an MSI board, so I dont know how well they work with OCing. You should be able to push out a few more MHZ tho with a small and safe overclock, and maybe even increase your iGPU by a few MHZ. thumb.gif I will get more in depth in a little bit, gotta go to work!

I have done a bit of an increase using K10stat with tests on Prime95 for about 7hours and it is pretty stable only at 2.8ghz tho, since I was being conservatiev and playing it safe. I was wondering if it can be pushed higher? The max temp that I got was around 24-26C based on CPUID HW Monitor.

Is that like an OCing application?

I have no idea how to OC a laptop.... lol
post #25 of 125
Yes it is an OCing application, you can undervolt your CPU also because the stock voltages out of the factory specs is way higher than what it really needs. It is the perfect tool for OCing laptops with the K10 cpu format. I believe it is AMD cpu's that are 2007 onwards. Google it up, APU's are easily overclocked with these. I got mine stable today at 2.9ghz im taking baby steps at a time.

Why are 99% of the hard drives that come with the A series procs all 5200 RPM. I mean that's like snail pace slow, and is keeping me from getting one of these...

I got a hp dv6-6117dx from my parents for christmas. It's got the a8 3500m, 500gb 5400rpm hdd, 4 gig 1333mhz ram and the 6620g. I added another stick of ram the other day for a total of 8gb and noticed a little difference in gaming. I also used the k10stat program to overclock from 1.5 to 2.4ghz at 1.0875v. When im on battery i have it set so it goes back to 1.5ghz and i can totally tell a difference but get much better battery life. So far i love the laptop, it's a 15.6" display but only 1366x768 res. I wish it had a higher res display and a faster hard drive which will be my next upgrade as it's pretty sluggish at startup.

Interested in joining this. Subbed. APUs seem to have been growing in popularity on OCN...

I am (hopefully) about to build 3 Llano rigs, all super cheap. 2 for friends who want very low budget gaming rigs and one for me as a project.

I have a question about APUs. The three rigs I'm building will all have a8 3870k CPUs, with a discrete 6670 card each, for hybrid crossfire. Will hybrid crossfire work for more than 1 discrete card? That is, can hybrid crossfire be done with 2 6670s and an a8 3870k? Or can it only be done with 1 6670 and a 3870k.

To the best of my knowledge, I believe it will only work with one 6670. Good choice on the A8-3870K though. If I ever game its on lower settings and on games that dont need a lot of power, so I havent crossfired with my A8-3870K. If you are a hardcore gamer it might be better to go for a higher end GPU and just an Athlon x4. For me, the APU is perfect, and When Trinity comes out I am most likely going to jump onto that as well. APUs 4 life. thumb.gif

I really wish the laptops came with some faster ram, as Llano does MUCH better with at least 1600mhz ram...
