New 7950GT: Nvidia drivers won't install

Thread Starter
Just got a new Nvidia GeForce 7950GT. I installed the drivers that came with card (on a separate disk) and that went fine. The card works good.

Then I went to update drivers at Nvidia site. The new version is 91.47 Forceware. Web site says support added for 7950GT, but when I try to install the drivers I get a error message saying drivers not found for my hardware, and then it quits.................

What am I missing here?

thanks

Did you make sure to uninstall the old drivers before installing new ones? That will mess you up.

And if you did and it's still wrong, then I'd recommend going back to the bundled drivers

Forceware drivers are chipset divers, not graphics drivers. Nvidia call then "platform drivers" get the right ones or your platform. Graphics drivers are call just that and you have the right ones there.

Well, you guys are speaking Greek to me. I have traditionally just gone to the Nvidia site and downloaded drivers. I had a 6800GT in here before and it always worked just fine doing it that way.

I had no luck trying to uninstall and then install the Forceware. I screwed up my comp in the process, but luckily managed to get it back running.

I had to use the drivers on the disk that came with the card, which don't appear to be too bad as my 3DMark06 score went from 2012 to 4204, so I'm happy to get a boost in vid performance.

I'm totally confused about how to update these freakin' drivers now, so if anyone can clarify, I'd be very grateful. I guess they're not too bad, so I'll leave them alone otherwise.

thanks...............

Go to www.drivercleaner.net and download drivercleaner PE. Install and use it. Pick Nvidia and run it, when done restart. then install the new drivers

I updated my specs in user CP...............thanks

Chipset drivers for video card? I thought you only needed them for mobo and stuff like that.

I'm a little leary of uninstalling now, as there was a screen asking exactly what to uninstall, with a number of assorted options. I wasn't sure to pick "everything" or just graphics driver, NOT display, etc.

Jeez, this is starting to remind me of the old Windows 95 days, when matching up drivers to any new card required a good bit of luck and too much knowledge, heheh.
