Pretty much this, HDD Prices are high, IvB is right around the corner, And Vidcard prices are rather high due to lack of "competition" atm.

I'd start with the Mobo+Cpu. Space that out over a month and you have a huge portion of your upgrades already done.

If you don't have the money yet, wait til you have at least... $800 dollars. That would cover the CPU, RAM, motherboard, SSD, PSU... But not the GPU.

Yeah, HDD prices are high, but they are lower than the recent peak. They have kinda settled, and it could be a while before they come back to cheap prices again, like 12 months for a full recovery or something. ivy bridge is Q2 release, so that is like 4 months away, no need to wait. Word is your processor will drop by like $20 or something, so that isn't bad. And if he isn't buying the new 7970, then there is indeed competition.

Wait until you have all the money. Things may change.

I second this. Things can change very very quickly in the tech world.

Incorrect, they released a firmware for this last week, and it's fine, problem solved. Anyway, to topic, i would wait until ivy and just use your lappy for now if you can.

As in... you have $2300? That fulfills your budget, but 2300 is an exorbant amount. Yeah, about $1200 is the sweet spot.
