$200 Challenge

Thread Starter
Anyone can make a $1400 rig. Heck most can make a $700 rig. But what if your budget is $300 bucks, including OS ($200 bucks)?
$200 bucks is little money, less than most good things out there. But can you make a running, 1080p sustainable pc for under it? It can be AMD or Intel. It only needs to be able to play games at lowest setting at 1080p stable. Upgrades will be few so it has to be stable. This is a hard challenge. Let see what you guys can come up with.

I payed a total of like $225 for my rig without the OS.

Yeah, at 1080p, not going to happen. Maybe invest that $300 and make more money from it. Any computer build for <$500 isn't going to be satisfactory, especially for gaming.

Unless you find some idiot selling off his rig on CL (99% of the time they over price the rigs) for $300, you're SOL

Luck with a dumpster find for a 775 workstation chip with a PCIE capable board. Money into a card, and done (crossing fingers that PSU supports the card).

P4 anyone?

Only way you are going to accomplish this task is if you pay used parts that people are selling for cheap because they just want to get rid of it. Not saying it isn't possible but it would take a couple months to pull together the parts.

Well get used parts, parts from ebay, open box and recertified from newegg and you probably could. The biggest challenge is the os. Win 7 home 64-bit Is $99, but you can get vista for $60 and Ubuntu is free. I think you can use someone else win 7 disc and just buy a product key.

I have less than $50 invested in my rig soon ill upgrade to a better graphics card. Im aiming to only spend $20-30 and get one with 1gb memory. The computer(tower, monitor, keyboard, mouse) was given to me. It was not working and my friend was moving so she just gave it to me. The problem was the psu. It was only a 250w so I grabbed a 300w that was from an old junk computer modified the cables and yay. I found my graphics card at a yard sale for $15. I just got 2gb OCZ Gold ram from ebay for $17. I have a 2ghz celeron in the rig but I have a 1.8ghz Pentium dual core that Im going to put in it as soon as I can get some conductive ink(for bsel overclocking)
