yes, it's 4 sata/sas connections per 8087 port. It's simply 4 sas/stata lanes bundled into one port. Very nice for enterprise storage connections. Use a breakout cable
to connect your drives (be careful not to accidentally get a reverse breakout cable).
Since TRIM isn't supported on the card you lsited, I'd personally go with the ARC-1882. I've dealt with the first gen series, and they are blazing fast. The new one is a dual core LSI chip. I'd set up RAID5 or 6 with your SSD's - the controller will be plenty fast enough to handle it about as fast as RAID0, and will give you a little fault tolerance. (Get the 4G cache and a battery backup unit). 22 disk RAID60 w/ 2TB WD RE4's (4G cache module): 1,239MB/sec
write. Love this card
ASG, I just received my TH10 earlier this week. I'm looking to do a similar workstation-oriented build with the SR-3 + Xeons and a 580, (yet with less expensive auxiliary components
) I'm looking forward to some pictures in your build log, Aquacomputer makes some beautiful gear.
