Yup if your using just the multiplier to overclock.
These chips are good to be ran up to 1.5v as long as you keep temps under 60c.

Not to hijack your thread BUT, I have a M5a97 as well, and have been considering getting an FX-4100 (sitting in NewEgg cart as I type this) and I have never done a Bios (UEFI in this case) update. I saw a couple of comments from folks who have obviously gone through this update and was hoping for a little advice on the subject. I guess I am intimidated by it a bit, what is there to be aware of ? I have already located the update in the ASUS site, but figured I would only load it if I go fx. I guess the age old fear of bricking my computer is holding off my fx upgrade...

Hey don't worry about updating my motherboard which I just bought from Newegg 2 days ago came loaded with the latest 0901 firmware that was able to see my FX-8120 with no problems! This is a great motherboard so far =) just click buy and get it!

Yes, the new boards are shipping with the newest UEFI, but I have had this one for a few months. AFAIK an fx will be recognized and run with my current UEFI(bios)s- but the recent fixes I do not have in my older UEFI version, so I will need to update.

I've updated BIOS on a number of different boards and have never had any problems. They make these things almost fool proof! You shouldn't have any problems.

Thanks for the confidence boost, might be just what I needed to make me hit send smile.gif . They just dropped the 4100s to $109 last week , and I have a $20 promo, so I will be shelling out a whole $89- the exact same price as I paid for this 555 about 8 months ago.

Here are my current settings for my 8120:

I did a 22 multiplier x 200 MHz bus speed, should I stick with this @ 1.404v or do something else? (Maybe a higher bus speed?) I'm not sure want to keep it stable 24/7.
