1200 no it wont it will only give what they require and the PSU would keep up with all the needs for a long time

i have used my 1500W PSU on a Dell desktop that had a fried PSU that was only 130W for a bit, but then it went back into my machene

850w is MORE than enough.

No. You don't need anything close to that. If I can run my x2 470's @ 900 core, a 2600K @ 4.8Ghz on a 850w, you can run your system just fine.

Worst case scenario: some GTX 480s running furmark on an OC'd system MAY draw 850W. Running a game, it's closer to 750W. Remember, these test systems probably use power hungry i7 965s or 980Xs CPUs, which is roughly equivalent to an OC'd 2500k or 2600k.

But you aren't getting 480s. A 850W would be more than fine, a good 750W would be too.

Yeah but the power consumption of the hardware game has gone down quite a bit, and still is.

An AX850 maxes out at about 1081w under load. (Will try to find the link to benches and proof.)

If he gets a quality 850w unit, he'll be great.
