Prices change all the time, it's called inflation. (not that this is what's happening with HDD's)

well i suggest the fx4100. its perfectly fine for gaming. thats what i use, never had any problems at 4.2ghz. never any FPS issues. you can make a cheaper AMD build with an HDD for $500.

Why would u get an unoverclockable cpu? Do u need windows and an hdd? Remember if you need windos thats like $100

You will always be able to upgrade to a nice i5/i7 further down the road when you need more power.
This will let you play at high settings @1080p and below with no problems.

Not bad at all but I should point out that for just another $20 a Phenom II x6 + good board combo can be obtained at NCIX.  And that's going to provide a significant benefit in BF3 (which he plays) - BF3 does not recognize HyperThreaded cores and does not benefit from them, and it is exceptionally multithreaded and also bandwidth intensive.  So going the x6 route for nearly the same price wins in that case.

GTX 550 by the way is really poor for price.

Im with XD on that budget amd is the way to go. You could even go with a Phenom 2 x2 555 that could unlock to a quad core for under $100. In fact i have a Phenom 2 x2 555 Be sitting in its box if you want it for $50 it unlocks to quad and overclocks to 4.oGhz.

Also for the gpu i would go with a 6850 if you are planing on spending that much they can be had for under $150 now. Or even a 5670 or 5770 if your on a real budget. I gamed on a 5670 until last month. all games at at least medium on 1080p.

If you can still find them the phenom 2's are great for gaming. Otherwise the suggested i3 2100 build looks very good to me
