Hmmm I have the same problem actually, and I notice it only happens when my temps start to go near 70C, and it's almost annoying.

That PSU is marginal indeed... .moving it to the top on my list of prime suspects.

Temps seem ok, volts seem surprisingly ok, but could be a program that overestimates volts.

I'd take a look at a new PSU. It's likely your problem.

NuclearCrap: in your case, I'd suspects temps.

12 or 18 amps? Either one is AWFUL, especially for a power hungry system like that!

Yeah, I know. I've been thinking about getting an OCZ, and the PSU calculators say I should get about 600 watts, but I want some room for expansion. Which one do you think?

Your rig does not need 600W. Not sure what settings you've used, but I'd say 350W is more to the truth. However, in either case, you'll need a PSU with 30A or more on the 12V rails (most of the power calculated by that PSU calculator is needed on the 12V rails)

OCZ GameXStream 600W is enough for your rig for $119.99

I used this calculator: http://extreme.outervision.com/PSUEngine
At stock, your rig needs 377W. (And I included two optical drives, and four 120mm performance fans)

I never use the capacitor aging, etc, since that just arbitrarily adds whatever % you pick to the total.

Its not heat related... how could it be. If it was it wouldn't render the frames OR the menu. Or better yet.. why render those. Also.. it if was power.. why render the menu and the coresponding framerate?

I believe there is something to do with some mods that don't use correct nif files.

Just type in CAL in the console. Press the ~ key and type in CAL than enter. It should work.

I know people only want to help, but some research and common sense is needed before you jump to obvious conclusion and have the OP poking around unneeded places.

The fact does remain that his PSU is very weak. I appreciate you did find a possible solution to the problem, but I don't really appreciate your comment toward other users who indeed wanted to help.

and clearly, the original poster was not able to find this himself, and neither did we. Good job that you did, and let's see if it works.

Oblivion is known to conflict with Nvidia cards when HDR is on, resulting in a black screen. This is a well known bug, and the only option is to quicksave (if you want) and restart the game, or turn Bloom on instead of HDR, or use the FakeHDR mod by Timeslip, it looks really great!

For more reference see www.elderscrolls.com/forums it should be around there somewhere

I've got another problem, so I figure it would be better to keep this thread rather than make another.

I've been playing with a modified bloom, and it's not nearly as good as HDR but I haven't gotten another black screen yet. The problem I have now is by all accounts, worse.

Whenever I'm playing, no matter where I am (in the menu even) after about a minute it freezes up. Completely. I can't do anything, even Alt-Tab out. To fix it, I have to restart.

My temps haven't increased at all. The only thing that has is that I am now running bloom instead of HDR. What can I do to help?

Did CAL work?

Also, play in window mode and see if an error pops out when it freezes.
