Zalman 9500 sux!! - Page 3

Well, I have both. I used just a small dab of the Ceramique when I installed the stock cooler.
I used the AS5 and razor spreader when I installed the Zalman. Maybe I should try the Ceramique on the Zalman this time. Or maybe just a dab of AS5?

Just a dab of AS5 will do, the only time you spread it on is when no IHS is present.

Just got thru re-installing my Zalman. I used a dab of AS Ceramique this time, got almost same result as before. So I checked the voltage on the CPU and noticed that it was 1.57V! Thats prolly too hi, so I disabled the variable CPU volts. It's only rated to 1.30/1.35V. And HOLY COW, this thing cranks out 110W! Max temp rating is 49-65C. It's idling now at 46C. Thats about where the stock cooler was.
More later.

1.57v? Wow. That is no bueno. That would definetly be the problem. You should now reapply the as5. (not the ceramique)
Ceramique is non conductive but works much better with Phase cooling as it can work at much lower temps. However for us air cooler guys its recommended to get just plain ol' AS5.

I had a similar problem with that board. My cpu idled at 46-48 and would sky rocket under load. Went to 70 in 5 min of orthos. I RMA'ed the board. Now all is good. 36 idle and 54 load.
Oc to 2.7 vcore 1.42. And this is using the zalman.
Did your board come with the 1205 bios installed?
When I got my board back from newegg it was a different revision. Even the manual was different. I have read that first generation boards had problems.

do NOT use the included standoffs. use the stock 939 hsf bracket with that cooler in place of the standoffs.

standoffs? with the zalman? i thought it used the stock AMD hsf mounting system...

thing with the zalman is, max the fan speed out, and make sure its blowing out the back of your case

then make sure you have the grain of rice size amount of AS5 and it should give good temps.

it comes with 2 metal standoffs that your suposed to use instead (so says the instructions) but its to loose if you use them and you get terrible temps.
