Added some RAM now I can't overclock

Hi all,

I'm having some overclocking issues as of today mad.gif I'm running an i7 w/ rasa 360 loop for cooling. I had 6GB of XMS 3 1600 7-8-8-20(I think those were the timings) and I was able to overclock just fine. It was at 4.4ghz with 6 rad fans and a multiplier of 21x for quite a while. I got tired of my computer sounding like a jet engine so I took off the 6 rad fans and dropped my overclock to 3.5ghz since that's still more than enough for most of what I do. It was running fine for a couple of weeks but then I decided that I wanted to get more RAM since it was so cheap. I bought another 6GB of XMS 3 1600 with 9-9-9-24 timings. I was expecting the faster set to run with slower timings which was fine. I got the set originally and the computer wouldnt even boot if all 12GB were in but then if I took out a certain stick it would boot fine with 10GB. I RMA'd the RAM and now that I have it back the computer boots fine and recognizes all 12GB. The problem is that it won't overclock at all. If I change my FSB to anything other than stock my computer wont boot and the BIOS resets itself. I have already tried uping my vcore and have set the memory multiplier lower so that they were running at 1650 with no results. I then moved the memory multiplier from 10 to 8 so they were running at ~1300 and it still won't boot. I set my timings to the slower RAM (9-9-9-24) and it still dosent work. At this point I'm at a loss of what to do.

Any help is appreciated thanks thumb.gif

when you add more RAM, more vcore is needed. i had a 920 and had 12gb of RAM and mine OCed to 4.0 at 1.5 vcore and never topped 90 but that was too high of temps for my liking.

riase your vcore some and you should be fine and set your memory to XMP settings and it should take its default settings

Oh really? I wasn't aware of that I'll give it a shot thanks!thumb.gif

EDIT: Ok I upped the VCORE to 1.3 at 3.5ghz and it still wont boot. Surely if i could do 4.4 w/1.25 stable before i should be able to boot 3.5ghz w/1.3.
