Blue Mic Yeti

So I'm looking at the Bluemicrophones Yeti and it seems to be an excellent fit for Teamspeak , Ventrilo and other uses. However I read the following in an amazon review:

http://www.amazon.ca/product-reviews/B002VA464S/ref=dp_top_cm_cr_acr_txt/190-9507859-3281567?ie=UTF8&showViewpoints=1

Cons:
-Overrides ALL audio drivers in the system.
When I say this, I'm talking about when you first plug it in, it literally takes over any other audio driver in the system.
So basically,
-Gaming Podcasting = Gone.
-FRAPSing a game = Gone.
-ANYthing that uses Stereo Mix = Gone.
-Having your speakers/headphones plugged into your computer while this is plugged in = Gone.

As I summed it up above.... GREAT sound, almost perfect recording quality but bad set up.
I give this product a 4/5. This being because I want to be able to use my microphone to record but to game podcast too. Furthermore, I don't want to have to unplug the mic and plug my headphones into my computer anytime I wish to record games/podcast.

The in another review the following was said:

As for the issue of taking over the audio inputs and outputs, yes sorta. I went in the control panel -> clicked on -> sound icon, on the play back tab, reselected my speakers (x-fi)output -> clicked on playback tab, made sure the yeti was selected Default. That was it. It takes over the audio properties on your computer, because it has a build-in headphone jack and the tri-capsule array for directional recording.

This brings me to the question of using my Headphones without the Yeti overriding Sound Playback. I just want to use the Yeti for Input and I have no need for the Headphone amplifier it has.

I have the Yeti pro, just change the default playback device to your regular sound card. Done.

Would the same apply for Onboard sound as well or is it necessary to use a Discrete sound card with the Yeti ?

The Yeti connects by USB - no need for a sound card at all tongue.gif

This is way better imo. Tried some of the blue products and this blew it out of the water in terms of SQ and easy of use.

Ok so if I understand it correctly it adds it's own Playback and Recording device interface and sets them as the Default playback and recording devices. I was under the impression that it Disables anything but it's own Playback/Recording devices.

Since you have the Yeti Pro which uses an XLR connection would the same apply to the Yeti ?

Yup, it's basically a USB sound card.

Yeti Pro has XLR in addition to USB.

I was actually looking at the Pro but it's nowhere to be found locally. However since we are discussing the Yeti Pro are there any noticeable advantages and differences versus the Yeti that justifies nearly a 120+ $ price difference ?

why would a recording device override a playback device...
