Diy 20w+ fan controller question.

I'm making a compact set of controllers to handle my fans. Il be using 4 yl d12sm's on one potentiometer and 3 scythe slipstream on the other.

Incase someone was wondering what there combined wattages are the ss's will take roughly 19w, while the yl's will be around 15w.

The potentiometers stocked at Mcmaster-Carr are rated differently than I have encountered before. Could I get a hand in figuring out there wattage ratings?

I'm looking for 25-50watt potentiometers.
There smallest ones are listed as "2@ 450v" but that's gobbleygook to me because I don't know what that means...

Here is the page [=http://www.mcmaster.com/#speed-pots/=fv1v9f]Mcmaster-Carr[/]

Also what resistance rating should I be looking at for an effective controller, as in running them from full blast to barely moving?

You really don't need that much power to run those fans, maybe 10-15w ... but honestly, after you find the parts and build it, you could've bought a NZXT 30W fan controller for 25 bucks. Side note; Sidewinder makes a 25w rheostat, but it's expensive and probably overkill for your needs.

None of those rheostats will work. (except the 50Ω and 250Ω ones but they are $142). You want something in the 30-100Ω range.... not 1K.

Plus you have different fans so they would need different controls for optimal speeds.

Just get a $10-20 fan controller....
Once again...

I was planning to run the yl's on one controller and the SS's of another.
That and a conventional fan controller wont fit in my case as it is a scratch build with space being a limited resource.

Those were the ones I got the idea for. They arnt hard to track down on ebay for 1/3 the price but I have an account with Carr.

Il look into ohmite for some of there stuff.
