PLEASE HELP! What happened to my display?!

Thread Starter
I had several games (MW3, Skyrim, BF3) that would crash when "AMD display drivers stopped working" or whatever, so I uninstalled them to install an older version. After the uninstall, my screen now looks like this:

450

I then installed 11.11 CCC and it didn't change! What is going on? Please tell me I didn't brick my graphics card somehow sad-smiley-002.gif

i had this issue when i first got my 6950...this is how i fixed it

uninstalled the gpu drivers...then deleted all the AMD/ATI folders on my hard disk (just gotta search for them)...then i ran CCleaner Reg cleaner...once that was done i restarted into safe mode and ran driver sweeper and let it uninstall whatever remaining drivers were there...once that was done restarted and booted back into windows and installed current drivers

i came to find out the drivers i used on my card the first time didnt like the card very much (11.5) but when i uninstalled them and reinstalled a new version they never uninstalled correctly

well that is an issue...you can try and boot into safemode and see what you can accomplish there...safe mode wont load the AMD driver so you should be fine in seeing things...problem will come when you try and uninstall things...they cant be uninstalled in safe mode

EDIT: i see you have a z68 motherboard...just boot into the UEFI and enable the onboard video...then just connect the monitor to the motherboard...you will have to probably remove the 6950 though

Yeah, I'm noticing that now. I just got into safe mode. I'm gonna try to uninstall blind and hopefully that works. I can do the deletions and reg cleaner in safe mode, right?

go by memory?

or use a 2nd computer and walk your self through the same steps on the one you can see as the one you cant...done this dozens of times back in college when my room mates would bork their graphics cards (apg voodoo3 days)

just use the keyboard to navigate since you you may not be able to get precise movement with your mouse

Thanks for the tip on the UEFI, but I just managed to do the uninstall blind from memory. Gonna try to boot into safe mode now and do the deletes and the reg cleaner. I'll post an update after.

EDIT: For the file deletions, did you delete literally every file and folder with the AMD or ATI name in them? There's none that I absolutely need to keep?

So I tried just doing the reg cleaner without deleting all those folders and that didn't work. Back to safe mode I guess...

EDIT: I would just like to add that I'm hesitant to do the file deletions simply because there's a lot of files and folders that look important and also unrelated to the display drivers.

the only time you need to keep AMD/ATI folders is if you are using an AMD processor which you arent or if you are using some other AMD products other than your video card which is what we are trying to fix

if you have no other AMD products in your system its perfectly safe to delete them...clearing them out and doing the rest of the stuff was the only way i was able to fix the same problem you have which is a driver issue
