My First Mechanical - OCN Ducky

Thread Starter
Hey Guys and you random Girls!

So today I came home from work, and my new Keyboard was here! thumb.gif

This Mechanical Keyboard was Lovingly Given to me for free since I was one of the 50 lucky winners of the recent OCN Ducky Giveaway.

I never knew much about these keyboards, and Im up in the air about it currently. Never once have I had a keyboard worth more than a few pennies on a good week. Once upon a time I came across a bunch of Old School Keyboards that came with Compaq's, ps/2 connectors and all. Been using those for the last 18 years!

Never ONCE would I have thought about any other type of keyboard lol

So Not knowing what I was doing, I asked a few people, and everyone said that the MX Browns are the way to go if you have no idea about the different types, and I dont...

So MX Brown it is. This is a fair amount Louder than these ancient Keyboard that im highly used to. but the sound is a bit different, I am not against it. Once thing I notice as i am typing this, is I seem to be able to type just a tad faster i think due to how the key actually actuates.

not sure about that.

This Keyboard is Quite Thick! and Tall! Feels Very Weird typing on it as I, once again, have used literally (Almost literally, if one died, i had 12 more) the exact same keyboard for 18 years.

I love that it has a Key for Calculator and of course the OCN Flame for the esc key.

I like how the space bar feels, its much more rigid than the rest of the keyboard.

There is ONE Real Gripe i have with this keyboard.... The Directional Keys, are set at lvl with the Hard plastic....

So far, using the Right Directional key, I have noticed that I constantly hit my finger into this corner piece of hard plastic. im no Mechanic, i have baby soft skin here lol that thing kind of hurts when im not paying attention.

Amazing packaging.

i think though, if I had a second chance, I would choose a quieter Keyboard style, i think this is a very loud keyboard but the typing is enjoyable. cant wait to game!

When I have some time, I will do a full review with some pictures thumb.gif

I see a few mistakes in there. tongue.gif

Mechanical takes a bit to get used to, but once you do, they are a dream to type on. I wanted to get a Ducky, but unfortunately $140 to pay with back lighting was too much for me to want to pay.

Glad you like your keyboard. thumb.gif

It's probably louder from bottoming out, the switches themselves are near silent. You can quiet it down some with some o-rings or landing pads.

Sad to hear that, man. You might consider selling it in the marketplace here. Some of the other winners are doing that.

General usage on blacks takes some getting used to, they are stiff. I used to use one at work every day, and after a while, I loved it, but it took me probably a month to get used to it from rubber domes.

black switches are an acquired taste.

i personally dont like them due to the mushy feeling they have.

yeah it sucks...i had never used a mech keyboard before so i read a ton and contacted a few people i knew that had a good bit of experience with them...it was a choice of either blacks, browns and blues....most just said black or brown for gaming which is what i do mostly other than surf the net...so i figured blacks would be the goto gaming switch...probably should've went with browns

i wont sell it...just not the type to sell something i was given...im going to give it another go shortly or ill find a friend in need and see if they may want it

I really dont mind the sound, ive had louder =)

What I mind most of all is the Left Right Up and Down keys,

My wife Likes all but that as well, because she has Finger Nails, Duhh, She cant press the up button without Getting owned by the Hard Plastic!

and me too, the left and right Keys has a Hard Plastic Edge that is part of the body of the keyboard, this Hard Edge is really messin my Finger up..

I REALLY Do not want to sell it =(

Me and my wife both think that the MX Browns are Phenomenal when typing and gaming

but the UP DOWN LEFT RIGHT Are the Major killer here

Both of us are not used to the Thickness of the keyboard, whick Raises the Keys Higher than Normal, so we are both constantly hitting the wrong keys, as if I didnt do that enough in the first place.

MX Browns are fairly loud though, But Very comfortable to use. and I game with Headphones on anyway so Im cool, well see how she likes the keyboard if Im Clackign away while she is Sleeping though, Uh oh lol

Question: Being my First Mechanical, and seeing how I actually enjoy typing on it and gaming, Loving the Feel of the Key Presses, But Feeling as though it might just be a little too loud, what MX Style would be best fit?

Could anyone tell me a bit more about O Rings or Landing Pads?

My purpose is NOT to make it silent, i would hate that. I cannot type on Laptops for schnitzle

my understanding is that the O-rings reduce the clank the switch makes when its pressed
