Cooling problem, gfx cards extremely close

Thread Starter
I am running a asus hd 6950 directcu ii 1gb on top of another reference amd hd 5870 card.

I'm running them on my evga p55v 120-LF-E650-RX motherboard.

Now the reference 5870 runs just fine, pretty cool in my antec df-30, but the limited air that asus card blows into the gpu are heated by the 5870 on the bottom and the temp goes straight to 100C plus in a short while, with fan running at 100% speed.

Thus my asus card is barely usable due to the vent problem. I did some research and people are suggesting putting a 120mm fan to suck the air out on side of the case. Well, gonna try tonight, I don't have much confidence in it though. These little bastards really blows my mind out. IMO they should put those two pci-e 1x slots between two cards for better cooling.

If this is not quite successful I think I will just put the reference card in the 1x slot to give it better room.

Do you have a fan on the side-pannel set to intake air onto the vidcards?

Used to have the same issue. The real solution is you put the cards on water and forget about the problem.

However the best bandaid i found was an Antec Spot Cooler, its a fan on a flexible rod that you attach to any of your motherboard screw mounts (30 seconds to install) and you can direct it exactly where you need it. Has 3 speeds for who do or dont like the pc to sound like a jet engine.
