WIN 7 odd scenario. help?

So after reinstalling 7 too many times to count i face a scenario that doesn't allow me to do anything from past knowledge. The rig is now a tad bit out dated. XFX 780i Sli, E8500, Gtx 260, 1000watt ultra, 2 x 2gb corsair, 2 hard drives 1 as boot the other as storage. This is what happens, I boot and it will tell me to put in the OS disk and go to repair. Now one of two things happens, depending on my luck. 1. I put in boot disk, it repairs and i get into the OS for a limited amount of time 5-25 min. 2. I put in the disk and after clicking repair in the OS menu it doesnt freeze rather just leaves me with the background and i can basically just move the mouse around. I've switched the RAM and that worked for about a week or two, but i just cant put my finger on the solution. My only guess is DVD rom, but that seems quite silly considering it boots to it. Can anyone give me a point in the right direction?

I have a couple quick questions.
Is this a new problem or did it happen when you installed w7?
Did you do anything major when the problems started happening (software/hardware)?
Is there any indication of what is being repaired when you run the Window's repair feature?

I had something that sounds similar to what you're going through (the OS freezing which was caused by bad RAM) so I would try downloading the Ubuntu ISO and use the memtest to see if there's anything wrong with your RAM. I would also run chkdsk or some other hard drive tool (I heard Seagate has a good one) for checking your hard drives for problems.

That's just my guess though, good luck!

Well the computer started acting funky lets say mid to end of November. I tried reloaded the OS a bunch of times but it would always freeze certain windows. I replaced the RAM and that seemed to work. For mid weeks of December it was working fine. I went home for Christmas break (student) and got back 3 weeks later. It was running hit or miss up until last week on Monday and now it does what i said before. No indication of repair either. I replaced the hard drive as well, so I'm pretty sure its not that either. I'll do a mem test, that seems like my best bet!

Do you have a usb flash drive that you can put the Windows install on? Booting from that would eliminate your dvd problem. But yeah, running memtest is always a great idea. I'd probably start there first too.

Sorry for getting back late, school hasn't really allowed me to be messing around with my rig for some time but now I'm dying to play some SC2 so i need to get this thing back up! It wont even allow me to run memtest, or repair or to install a fresh install for that matter. I have tried 3 different sets of Ram that has been working before. So I think the RAM issue is out the window. Anyone else have any ideas??
