ati 6950 Xfire Max core

Thread Starter
so i installed MSi afterburner today to see how my Xfire'd 6950's are performing and i find out that GPU 1 is running at 100% at 800 core while GPU 2 is running only at a max of 50% at 500 core. can anyone explain why this is happening? or is this normal? i checked and they both are running at X8 on PCIE's.

Install MSI Afterburner 2.2.0 Beta 11

Turn off ULPS;

1. Go to regedit (start > search programs and files > "regedit").
2. In drop down menu: find file > type "enableulps".
3. For ALL instances (keep pressing F3) change the "1" value to a "0".
4. Reboot PC.

Enable; HOW TO: Enable UNOFFICIAL overclocking mode in MSI AfterBurner

Note: Install Afterburner 2.2.0 Beta 11 then and disable ULPS then enable "unofficial overclocking" . Exit CCC and Afterburner prior to editing. Do not activate CCC Overdrive afterward or whatever set will be reset to default. Also do not install Catalyst over Afterburner or it will be overrided by CCC Overdrive.

Edit: Do not improvise. Do as above and all will work fine.

thanks for the tip! i was reading a tip from another user about disabling ulps and he mentioned to ignore ulps_na..should i do that as well?

also, i already disabled ulps before i made this thread. should i re enable it the install afterburner and then disable it again?

I always had the best and most stable overclocks on my xfire 6950's using Saphire Trixx... it disables ulps for you and just seemed to work right out of the gate with no issues. I had both cards running stable at 950/1450 @1.20v ... although BF3 actually picked up more fps with the mem clocked at 1375. When I use AB I couldn't get as high of clocks stable. thumb.gif

thats the thing, im running on stock clocks and the max core for 1 of the GPU is only runnning at 500 while the other is at 800.i just dont understand why its that way..im running 12.1 preview with 11.12 cap 2.

playing battlefield 3 id get 60 fps around 70% of the time. this will dip into 40's-42's in a heavy areas. i though 6950's can max this game out. i have AA and motion blur off. just HBAO. running it at 1920*1080.

Ok something is causing it to downclock... either the psu is choking up or something but there's no reason your clocks should be dropping. It's not the cards there is something else going on.

Sounds like you may need to do a completely fresh install of the Catalyst... do a full sweep and everything. Use 11.12official drivers with 11.12 cap 2

thanks for the input! im not so sure if it is a PSU issue. im running a 650W corsair PSU. im not experiencing any crash / artifacts / glitch on screen or anything that would flag it as a power issue. just these problems.

alright ill try the 11.12 driver. with 11.12 cap 2. but i did try a number of different drivers before posting here. not so sure if i did try 11.12 with 11.12 cap 2 though. thanks again
