Lost!! XFX R7970 killing all display options, even for BIOS when I plug in an HDTV

Here's my issue. I built this over the last week and put an old HD660 card in it to get VGA hookup to set up windows before the R7970 got here. I plugged the card in, plugged my new 42" LG LCD HDTV in and, BLANK!! "no signal" was dancing around on the screen. Double checked both the 6 and 8 pin power connections, all was correct, tried plugging a VGA-DVI adapted moniter and still no output. Unplugged everything, cleared the CMOS and nothing. So.... I unplugged the power to the R7970, put the old HD660 back in and voila, it was back.... Windows crashed several times trying to install the and finally booted into "last known good configuration" which worked. I shut down, plugged the monitor into into the adapter, repowered the R7970, booted up and OMG it worked!!!! All the most recent drivers from AMD installed with no problems Played around with it, checked the windows rating, stress tested all with no problems. So, I put her to sleep.

This morning, booted fine on the old monitor, shut down, unplugged the dvi monitor and plugged in the LG HDTV (model 42LK450) and blank. Now, I can't get so much as a splash screen no matter what configuration I use. HELP???!!!!!!!

Hi
Did you solve your problem?
I am getting a similar problem with the XFX R7970 on a Gigabyte GA Z68XP-UD3P ver 1.0 motherboard (F7e BIOS). The card is not detected and fails to work with either a Samsung SyncMaster 2333HD monitor or a Viewsonic VP2365-LED. BIOS is set to give the PCIe x16 slot priority and on-board graphics (i5 2500K) is set to enable on-board graphics when PCIe card not present, yet only the on-board graphics work. An HD5870 card in the same slot works fine.
In another computer with Gigabyte GA X58A-UD3R motherboard and i7 960 processor the R7970 will work with the Viewsonic but not the Samsung.
XFX say there may be a motherboard compatibility problem and told me to speak to Gigabyte. Waiting for their response.

I ran off the onboard graphics (just to get a display) installed the drivers off the ATI website, NOT the ones on the disk in the box. Get the AMD Catalyst Install Manager, uninstall any drivers you've tried first, then ONCE the machine is running and drivers are installed (you obviously have a display on whatever is plugged directly to the board) run your hdmi or dvi to the monitor/tv you want to use and it should work. I have no decent explaination as to why this worked for me, but it did. From there, I was able to set up DX11 etc........ Great card!!!! Lemme know how it goes!

Many thanks for your advice. Uninstalled the drivers off the CD and downloaded/installed the ones from AMD website - but no joy I'm afraid. It still looks as though the card is not being detected. An HD 5870 works in this slot and my XFX R7970 works in another computer!

I'm about to post another "help message" on this. IDK if voltage is an issue. While cleaning up my cable management issues (after running a triple sli 7970 bench on saturday) I accidentally pushed a pin out of the pump molex (off the water pump). Booted fine until I got the inevitable "CPU running hot". Immmediately identified the problem, reinserted the pin and poof.... Back to square one. I think this card just loves juice.

PS... EDIT, i ran off an old cheapy vga card, not "onboard graphics" (this board doesn't have those. Sorry to sound like a noob!

Given up on my XFX R7970 and Gigabyte Z68XP-UD3P combination which won't work together - had 7 days to return without quibble. XFX sloped shoulders, after suggesting a few things which didn't work - saying contact Gigabyte. Gigabyte haven't reponded to a support ticket in 5 days. How bad is that?! Now buying Asus motherboard and HD7970 - surely they must be compatible!

the XFX card has VRM heating issues if i remember correctly, are you sure the card isnt dieing slowly from overheating?

The XFX card is the same as all the reference cards in that manner. Using a type J thermocouple, I reached a maximum temperature of 61C with my card at 1150/1625 after an hour of gaming. I decided that I did not need extra cooling.

The XFX DD cards (non-reference)do get significantly hotter in that area.
