You must be a supporter of SOPA and PIPA.

Don't try to label me based on your perceptions of life. As I said they knew the rules and they chose to ignore them. Now they will pay for their choices like every other criminal.

How can you call them criminals? somebody made the analogy of it being a giant trash can, everybody puts in what they want to put in and if somebody puts in a nuclear bomb you cant be responsible for them. FAct of the matter is megaupload was a legit fileshare site, yeah pirated things do go through there but there are things like home videos and pictures etc that are totally legit.

so i guess hotfile, fileserve, mediafire, everything is gonna go down? lol

It's a victim-less crime. What did they do? Made a website that let YOU upload files and share them. They took complaints and took ALOT of copyrighted files down. I mean, seriously, you don't expect them to go through petabytes of information do you?

Also, under the current laws, website owners are not responsible for the content uploaded by users.

As said by someone else, its like a gun shop selling you a gun, then you go and kill someone with it, but the you aren't arrested, the gun shop is, because they gave you the tools to do it.

That would make sense if nobody ever dropped nukes in your trash can.

But if 90% of the items dropped into your trash can was nukes and you were repeatedly told (by US officials and owners of the property) to take your trash can into your garage and didn't then that is on you.

That's for the courts to confirm.

Anyone read this?

The news of the shutdown seemed to bring retaliation from hackers who claimed credit for attacking the Justice Department's website. Federal officials confirmed it was down Thursday evening and that the disruption was being "treated as a malicious act."
A loose affiliation of hackers known as "Anonymous" claimed credit for the attack. Also hacked was the site for the Motion Picture Association of America and perhaps others.
