It always amazes me how invested people get in the brands they buy. I guess its no longer about protestant and catholic, rather which brands you worship in the church of consumerism.

No i dont work for them wish i did it would be awesome! And i dont beleive in religion either so your post is pretty much a fail move on troll!!thumb.gif

A page from nvidia fans arguments "It should be better considering it came out after" heh

In all seriousness though, this is good for all of us, though with how it seems that both nvidia and AMD are rushing through this gen to the next, I don't see this as being a big deal. We're getting to a stage where theres no competing gens from AMD and nvidia, simply a pissing match of "Oh yea, look at this!" Oh well, as long as we see cards getting cheaper, cause it just seems that we see more and more expensive launches of cards these days, which keeps low end and mid range cards from dropping... Heck look at 5770/6770... been in the $100-$140 range for over a year... In fact, I remember seeing it for $109 and $99 after rebates after Xmas... of 2010...

I just purchased a 7970 myself, coming from a GTX580 for the only reason being that I'm "desperate" to run Battlefield 3 @ 1920x1200 Ultra and have it be average 60+ FPS with at least 2xMSAA - it's definitely fast enough and then some to keep up when overclocked on water. So this is to say... if I have a strong enough desire for the best at the time, I'll buy it despite the brand. That being said... nVidia GPUs have traditionally (with very minor exceptions) been the top dog from the start with raw performance and I expect that trend to continue.
AMD just now caught up with the GTX580 (and guess what, the GTX580 still beats it in some specific areas of performance) - a little late on the architecture overhaul. This is basically AMD's 1st gen attempt at a proper compute based high performance GPU -- nVidia is entering their 2nd gen. Who do you think will win by years end? nVidia by a comfortable margin no doubt.

Excellent post!thumb.gif

AMD is a lot smarter than nvidia. Instead of "perfecting" technology or developing new features, they just rush out new hardware as soon as a new fabrication process matures.

look at the 5870. that card was lacking VRAM and proper tessellation support. the 480 was the first "true" DX11 card...but guess what? it came out too late and for most people, raw performance is more important than some obscure feature set. same thing here. get your 28nm out as quickly as possible. by the time nvidia releases their card with advanced features a few months later, you release a "6970" version that catches up features-wise. it's already known that the 7970 is missing a shader cluster, and it would be very easy for AMD to include it in future "8970" cards.

Which is selling more?

And yes, a Ninja and a front-loader are competing with each other in the market.

Say the article is correct, and that Kepler does beat GCN by a fair margin. I'd call that 30%-40%.

The question becomes, how much will the performance of GCN improve with mature drivers? and how much is AMD up-pricing their cards because of nVidia not having anything new on the market?

If they can price afford to price them better than nVidia can with Kepler it wont matter if the GTX 770 beats the 7970. The game always has, and always will be, about price/performance.

If that was true, why does NVIDIA have 60%, while ATi has less than 30%?
