That is awesome man! Was the setting that was screwing things up enabled by default? Were you re-enabing it every time people were telling you to try default settings with just xyz settings?

thanks guys smile.gif
nah i never touched that setting, didnt know what it did! it was enabled by default yeh!
the ironic thing is i still cant get the operating system to load past 4.1Ghz HAHA > _ < Well i got the same as before - got into the OS with 4.2Ghz then it crashed very quickly.
What happens when i try to load with an OC past that is after the bios post i just get a black screen with a flashing white underscore at the top left and also the diagnosis code display on the mobo goes dead. when i do get it to load with a lower overclock it says "remove disks or other media. press any key to restart", then it boots into the OS. not quite sure what's gone on here but since i got my bios to post with the cpu at 4.8Ghz just using the built in preset im pretty sure i'll be able to do a bit better than 4.1Ghz with a bit of tuning smile.gif

try disconnecting all sata devices one by one. maybe you have conflict between hardware.

yeh thats definitely possible. the only sata devices i have is my hdd and my dvd drive. i barely use the dvd drive so i'll take it out and see how it goes. i'll try reinstalling the ahci driver to (though i cant find one for my motherboard and had to use the microsoft fix it thing that installed the generic windows ahci driver before). im not sure if i actually tried booting the overclock with ide mode since this new discovery of what was holding me back. im gonna be spending most of the day working on this as im determined to get at least 4.5Ghz stable out of this setup smile.gif will be posting back later this afternoon!

well this is a bummer. i can get the cpu at 4.8ghz (maybe higher but i haven't tried) in the bios but keep getting that black screen with the white flashing underscore when i try to go higher than 4.2ghz and boot into windows. 4.1ghz is stable as before but i cant get 4.2ghz stable. im thinking it must be the motherboard. was considering sending it back to the shop to get a replacement. anyone know what grounds i could send it back on as they will most likely test it?

not the conclusion i was hoping for lol....

Could you post your BIOS settings for the 4.8ghz that you tried. Thanks.

well that was just with the overclock presets (4.0, 4.2, 4.4, 4.6, 4.8) and turning off igd multi monitor. the presets worked with variations of settings - as long as igd multi monitor was off i could get into the bios after setting the clock. it was just for testing to begin with. but now ive been trying to overclock properly im stuck in the same situation as before. i tried disabling a load of other settings to. i cant help but feel this motherboard bios is bugged. i did say nearer the beggining of this thread that i think i may have got the computer to boot with the 4.4ghz preset one time within the first dew days of building this setup and was gaming on it for an hour or so until it crashed. im also pretty sure i had the 4.2ghz preset running and gamed on it loads without any issues. im not 100% on that but im fairly sure thats what happened. im wondering if something has gone wrong after i flashed with the beta bios because it was before i did that when i would've had those higher overclocks working. im on 1.10 at the moment which is not beta but it might not be cleanly installed. i dunno.... any ideas?

Not sure about pre-set overclocks, manually is the way forward and that's why I think it's a good idea if you post your BIOS settings exactly as you have them for the 4.8ghz so that we can take a look at what the problem might be. Thanks.

i dont have any settings for 4.8ghz - i used the preset for that as a quick test. i am trying to overclock manually now but cant get the operating system to boot past 4.2ghz and can only get 4.1ghz stable. just for the hell of it though i will try see if i can get 4.8ghz working in the bios by setting it manually. will post back...
