my questions how loud is it? I have seen some videos of it starting up not too loud i guess or maby it got recorded rong
what if i want to upgrade the ram? i heard that the ram all has to be ECC and the same serial number or somthing like that or it wont work
and the same with the CPU?

do they produce alot of heat? I plan to put in a closet...

it will be a:
File server
Storage Server
Minecraft server
and I would like to remote desktop it
i cant seem to get win7 remote desktop to work for me at all just says the computer cant be reached for some reason that arnt it

for a OS:
I was thinking ubuntu server using SSH and putty to remote desktop as i want to run headless

HDD/Raid:
what raid does this server have? i think ima go for raid 0 or maby 1 if i get 2 more SCSI for it

How old:
How old is this server? on geeks.com are there any newer server about the same price?

Compatability:
i need to get files onto it from a windows 7 computer and then even get files onto the win7 computer from the server

Other things:
can i stream video? ubuntu server
file transfer to win7 and file transfer ubuntuer server to win7? ? ubuntu server

Yes they're loud.
Yes they produce a lot of heat, a closet is a no-no.
You do need ECC RAM, usually these won't even boot without it.
If you're using Ubuntu you can't use WIndows Remote Desktop nor can you use Putty for Remote Desktop. You'll need something else, like VNC.
RAID 0 in a server is just idiotic. RAID 1 is a waste of space and RAID 5 can be costly. Take your pick.
The server is older, but not too old. It's going to draw a lot of power.

I'm not sure what you mean by can you stream video? You can do whatever you want on just about any OS.
File transfers across Ubuntu and Windows 7 works flawlessly.
If you want to have more than one server running ontop of it, I suggest you look into Virtual Box.

With those drives you won't get much space though. Better off building a server for file storage out of a standard desktop case. I would buy this if I wanted to host 4 or 5 source games and a bunch of websites. Then put it in a datacenter. You can make a linux based file server fairly cheaply.
