If you have a good or golden chip though (say less than 1.45v for 5GHz stable), then it could be doable with your H70 or any air cooler. It just depends on how good your chip is.

I dont have a h70 anymore. The backplate broke when i removed it from my previous build.

So then email Corsair and ask for a new mounting kit? If you're nice, they might ship you one for free....

Im gonna mount the H100 at the top of my case and move the 200mm fan thats there now to the side panel.
If you change the fan on the 212+ then I think you will be fine going to 5.0Ghz.
I have run 5.0 Ghz 24/7 on my build already and right now I am pushing it up to 5.2Ghz and run Prime95 for 12 hours.
I have already done 5.1 Ghz stable for 12 hours already on 212+ and tried the 5.2Ghz for like an hour on prime95 and the temp had hit low 90c.

So if you have a pair of good fans on the 212+ for push and pull then I think you might be fine.

Again, it depends on your luck on the chip. If your sig rig is accurate, and you only require 1.34v for 5GHz, then uh yeah of course the 212+ can handle it. Try 1.54v for 5GHz on that 212+, I promise you'll overheat it. Because 1.50v+ is what an average chip is going to need. Mine takes 1.54v for 5, which is unsafe, and a 212+ won't handle that kind of heat load anyway.

a 212+ will handle a little over 1.4v Vcore for full load. After that temps will get way past 80C when running Prime95.

As others said here, it's all about the luck of the draw.

Some chips needs 1.4v for 4.5GHz, others may do 5GHz at 1.4v Vcore.

In fact, it's pretty pointless using much money on expensive coolers until you've tested how good the CPU is.

As pioneerisloud said, a golden 2500K may do 5GHz at only 1.35v Vcore, and will not need more than a 212+ for that Vcore. Some may need 1.55v Vcore for 5GHz, and even if you used high-end watercooling to manage temps, the Vcore is way past what is recommended for Sandy.

A 212+ will bring most, if not all 2500K's up to at least 4.5GHz.

You are right about that.

when I tried 1.46 to 1.47 on 5.3 Ghz with Prime95 just within 5 mins temp goes up to 93c. Which I expect it will hit 95c to 98c if I leave it on for longer.
