Dividers and Oc'ing

Thread Starter
Does running a memory divider lower an overclock? my fsb is currently at 268 (i think) and with a big divider it puts my memory right at DDR400. Will changing my divider, to make my memory at 440-450, raise the max overclock of my processor? will i be able to go to 2.9 instead of 2.8? or is it just one of those computer things thats impossible to tell? thanks for the help, and i know i have to update my sig.

EDIT: fixed spelling

You lower your divider in order to hit higher clock speeds. When ram is your bottleneck, you use a divider so that it is no longer a bottleneck. Running the divider does lower performance, but usually the increased clock speed gained from using it nullifies the performance lost.

only if you need to go higher fsb. otherwise keep it at 1:1.
