8 person LAN party games

Thread Starter
Heya fellas, say i am hosting a LAN party with my buddies in the coming month and, i am wondering what you think would be fun games to play, We all have custom rigs so new games wont be a challenge to us

1) These are the games that we are 100% going to play.

a) Left for dead 2 (versus)

b) Unreal tournament 3

2) now i am wondering what RTS to get or we could play

thoughts through my head, Civilzation 5, Warcraft III, starcraft, Warhammer 40k, Age of empires 2/3

a) The game MUST have LAN (no starcraft 2 T_T)

b) and must be somewhat new.

3) any other games that you guys liked when you played at LAN parties or suggestions?

I know that it's breaking rule a), but if you guys were to play squad rush in BFBC2, that would be sick.

I dont want 8 guys buying a game, especially when we already have a FPS. But it would be interesting

If you guys have Crysis 1/Wars, play Instant Action together. I mean, who doesn't have that game? tongue.gif

You don't have to buy Crysis Wars to play the LAN. The trial version was made for free weekends and also gives full LAN play.

Also, Killing Floor would be absolutely amazing, however, it has a maximum of 6 players. If you guys were to split it up, it would be the best game ever with friends.

I suggest Rainbow Six Vegas 2

Terrorist hunt is awesome, but its only 4 players. I think you can do versus though on LAN.

It's a pain because some of the LAN games I play with friends are for 4 players.

Heres a few suggestions, some may not allow 8 players, but I think they all do:

Ghost recon AW2.
Age of Empires 3
Command and Conquer 3
Battlefield 2
Company of Heroes
Dawn of War 1

Some 4 player based ones too, incase you wouldn't mind running two separate games:

CoD5 or 7: Zombies
Borderlands

There is also SWAT 4, but I'm unsure how many players that will handle.

- Supreme Commander is a good RTS game. A lot of people (including myself) like Forged Alliance the best.
- You mentioned Warcraft 3 for an RTS, but I'd go after the endless supply of custom maps (search EpicWar).
- Quake 3 is fun, although some might feel UT3 is similar enough.
- Trackmania Nations Forever only if you all like arcade-style racing.
- CS:S
- Garry's Mod (for some reason we end up playing TTT at the LANs I go to)
- It's only 4-player, but Magicka.
- Section 8: Prejudice may or may not be your cup of tea for FPS.
- Minecraft
- CoD4
- TF2 & Crysis (already mentioned)
- definitely Starcraft
The Crysis 1 MP (or wars) can be pretty fun if you havent played it much, same with Far Cry 1. There's also AI War (RTS), Rise of Nations (RTS), Supreme Commander (RTS), League of Legends (not really LAN, but its free, and you can do 4v4), or CoD4.

Well games MUST have 8 person LAN - including 4v4 like lfd2

C&C3 is 6 person LAN
Crysis is a maybe

I am testing BBC2 to see if it is right

Ghost recon AW2. - have enough FPS

Age of Empires 3 - Ehhhh

Command and Conquer 3 - 5 person LAN

Battlefield 2 - trying it

Company of Heroes - no one is interested :/

Dawn of War 1 - or 2 is a possibility, unsure about LAN on it tho

- Supreme Commander is a good RTS game. A lot of people (including myself) like Forged Alliance the best. - to big, kinda blah

- You mentioned Warcraft 3 for an RTS, but I'd go after the endless supply of custom maps (search EpicWar). - meh

- Quake 3 is fun, although some might feel UT3 is similar enough. - UT3 is pretty much the same thing so

- Trackmania Nations Forever only if you all like arcade-style racing. - racing wont be good for this one

- CS:S - eh possbility

- Garry's Mod (for some reason we end up playing TTT at the LANs I go to) - nope

- It's only 4-player, but Magicka. - 4 person

- Section 8: Prejudice may or may not be your cup of tea for FPS. never heard of it, have enough of this genre

- Minecraft - eh

- CoD4 - nope

- TF2 & Crysis (already mentioned) there will be TF2, unsure about crysis

- definitely Starcraft - the first is janky, when i have played the second. Dont get me wrong i loved the first but going back to it is just....hard
