Hey I just hooked up with binormalkilla's X2 3800+. The stepping is LDBFE can anyone comment on this stepping as far as it's overclockability?

CPU: Athlon X2 3800+ (Manchester, 2.0GHz stock)
CPU Speed Overclocked: 2.5GHz suicide...cannot run more than stock stable.
CPU voltage: 1.31 currently (1.50 suicide)
CPU temp (100% load): 65*C currently (90*C suicide)
RAM: 1GB Corsair Value DDR400
RAM Speed: 200MHz currently (216MHz suicide)
RAM Stock Timings: 2.5, 3, 3, 8
RAM Overclocked Timings: 2, 3, 3, 7, 1T
CPU Cooling: Zalman CNPS 9500 AM2 (green LED)

No idea why I'm overheating so badly...I'm looking up lapping guides...gonna attempt to lap my CPU and HSF...hopefully that helps on my temps so I can hit AT LEAST 2.5GHz stable now. It used to be stable, but once it started getting hotter, it stopped being stable. We'll see how this turns out.

Whoa dude I seriously hope whatever temp monitoring program you have isn't readin those temps right. 55C is max temp for that under any circumstances. I just poped mine in and it's running orhto's right now at 41C with everything stock. Check your temps while in your bios. Also make sure your heatsink is mounted properly. You did use thermal grease between the heatsink and cpu didn'y you?

Of course...I'm running AS5 using the straight line method. And in BIOS my temps are about 51-52*C....which is idle. Yeah...planning on lapping after my paycheck (gotta buy the materials). Never done a lap before, but hopefully its not too difficult. Believe me, I know how to install a CPU and heatsink....done it MANY MANY times before. This is the first time I've had this serious of heat issues. I think my motherboard might just be reporting the temps wrong...but we'll see after lapping and reapplying the HSF.

I'm also thinking when I do lap it....probably only going to use a little drop (rise sized) of AS5. Since the surfaces should be much flatter, I won't need as much AS5. And I noticed that my Zalman is rounded outward pretty bad...I can see it with my bare eye. My processor probably don't look much better. So yeah...I'm going to attempt to lap, and if I blow it up somehow...I'll just buy an Opty 165 and get 3.0 out of her.
