Changing to conroe means changing my lovely ram which i only bought two months ago and also changing my mobo. I'm not overkeen on the core duos either purely because I love AMD if i were to change at all it would be to AM2

Well, if you are stuck to AMD then I wouldn't upgrade a thing. But...why are you? If you were to upgrade anything then get better cooling as you can use that if you upgrade, go custom water or maybe even phase.

AM2 would be a waste of money and you would loose the ram,

If you must upgrade look at the Opty 165 or 170. I think the 170 is going to have the 10x multi vs the 165's 9x. I dont know what your board is capable of as far as FSB goes. If it cant handle a high multi get the 170 as the 10x will help out a lot on that.

Id say 165, but thats because I have one that is a decent stepping.
