Universal remote that works with XBMC?

Well.. our WMC remote finally died.. It's about 6 years old so I'm happy with how long it lasted. So I was wondering.. Is it even possible to use a universal remote with an HTPC? It would to be able to control XBMC (with a windows 7 OS) and maybe have a button to call it up if it's not fullscreen, as well as doing all those other nifty universal remote things! I have an IR receiver if that helps with the HTPC portion. If anyone could give any good recommendations for a remote, that would be great. I don't have a budget, because my wife refuses to give one until she sees the capabilities compared to the price. rolleyes.gif

So if I could get a couple of recommendations between say $50 and $150 that would be helpful. Thanks in advance!

Logitech Harmony 700 is what I use and it's very nice. $99 but you can often find it on sale cheaper.

Ebay usually has them for about $30 used, or $50-$75 new.

Hmm.. Not bad! Any way to call XBMC from the desktop in Windows (like if XBMC was closed or minimized), or put the HTPC to sleep? I'm intrigued. Thanks!

That I don't know. Last time I used XBMC was on an Xbox 1 like 3 years ago. lol

Yep, look for a software called iMON. I know it let's you program a shortcut button to any program you want and let's you pick which function you'd like the power button to perform: shutdown, sleep, etc.

Not to hijack here... But does anyone know if XBMC has a dvr feature yet?

Don't believe it does.. Still waiting for that one as well. Not sure about XBMC 11, but I haven't heard anything about it so I'd be surprised if they did.

I've been waiting for that, and that alone to build an HTPC. I loved XBMC on my xbox 1, and I've used it on my PC a few times just messing around, too. But without DVR capability, it just won't do it for me.

I'm not one to pay for another program just for one feature that the one I really like is lacking. Even if that one feature is a MAJOR one.
