Need help with AMD build

Thread Starter
I'm switching from Intel to AMD and just want to start off with a good all around system for now, as I will upgrade later. So just want some opinions on if this would be a good starter rig or not. And I will be OC'ing the CPU. Thanks

Get better ram...Gskill, 1-2 gb. Never 512. Try a better PSU at least 25A on 12v rail. If I were you I would just spend on a good system.

The rest doesn't look too bad. GOOD LUCK!

I'm not abig big fan of that particular brand of RAM myself... but no matter what RAM you get, ALWAYS get at least 1GB of it. 512MB is going to leave you crawling with a lot of things...

Case is your preference. Just keep in mind airflow if you're going to overclock.

Sony makes good DVD burners so that should be ok.

500W PSU should be fine. And I don't think you'll need anything better UNLESS you get a better videocard or try to overclock alot of stuff. But I agree with kagaos. 25A on 12v rail would be advisable.

Harddrive is up to you as well. Unless you're doing RAID or something this should be fine.

Your 6600 256MB video card is about a year old now. Depending on what you want to spend you can get a much better GeForce 7 series 256MB.

and About your processor... My old processor, AMD Sempron 64 3400+ 2.01GHz actually tested better than what you've got lined up.

Listen, I'm not tryiing to bash this system, but if you're getting all of these parts 2nd hand I could understand you getting them. But new? No way. You can find much better deals on mobo/cpu combos on the internet. Hope this is of some use to you...

Toss that piece of a motherboard please!

that motherboard will most likely not be sufficient at regulating voltages and clock speeds. Go for something a little more expensive. AMD are picky about motherboards.

The rest of the setup looks killer. Those 3200 are awesome for overclocking (as long as its a socket 939)

I'd stick with Intel. This one is at the top of your budget, but has a good dual core CPU, and a Core 2 Duo ready motherboard.
Total: $568.93 + shipping

If you want to save some, the Pentium D 805 is a good option also for $90, knocking $38 off the total above.

Dual core CPU, upgradability, and a solid motherboard that should give you nice overclocks.

If you can aford the up to a 3700+ "E4" you will get a ton of performance and very good OCing potential .
This one the "BN" in the part number is the better OCer ADA3700BNBOX. The other uses the CF designation and is less OC friendly.

http://www.mwave.com/mwave/viewspec....iteria=BA21445

Like said, you will benifit from getting a 1G RAM module which will improve performance and allow a 2x1G in the future if needed.

Chozart, you need to change from "AMD Overclocker" to PC Config Master"
Chozart has a great config there for you!!!

If AMD is your desire, it's very possible also!

Look at my previous rig suggestion, and replace the following:Total will then be $563.92

In the future, my first upgrades would be the PSU, followed by video, and adding a stick of RAM.

On a sidenote: anyone knows how well the Brisbane cores will perform? Like this X2 3800+ here: http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produc...82E16819103733
They require less power than the Windsors.... looking like a good alternative.
