hello,

im about to buy a new card, but i have some concerns;

-will a 6970 or a 6950 fit in my cooler master 690 (first edition)?
-is XFX a reliable brand?
-What is the difference between "XFX Radeon HD 6970 XXX Edition 2GB GDDR5" and "XFX Radeon HD 6970 2GB GDDR5"?

my resolution is 1920*1200 will i be able to max out bf3 with a single 6970 (2gb)?
will my i7 920 bottleneck the GPU?

many thanks;)

-will a 6970 or a 6950 fit in my cooler master 690 (first edition)? YES.

-is XFX a reliable brand? Sometimes. They've had their share of badly made cards, but I haven't heard anything bad about the HD 6000 series.

-What is the difference between "XFX Radeon HD 6970 XXX Edition 2GB GDDR5" and "XFX Radeon HD 6970 2GB GDDR5"? I believe the XXX version is pre-overclocked.

my resolution is 1920*1200 will i be able to max out bf3 with a single 6970 (2gb)? Most likely, yes.

will my i7 920 bottleneck the GPU? No. First gen i7 and i5 are still great CPUs. Don't let their age decieve you.

many thanks for all the information!

ill look up the difference between those 2 XFX cards since the XXX edition is cheaper for me than the regular one.

does anyone else have any opinions about XFX?

I have had 3 XFX cards and never had a problem. I think the reason people had a problem was the RMA process, I've never had to use it.

XFX got a bad rep for their completely screwed up version of the HD 4890, back in 2009. Google it, it's everywhere.

Anyway, this does not mean that XFX is bad. The past is past. I'm sure you will have no problems with the HD 6000 series.

But there are TONS of absolutely great AMD GPU makers out there: Powercolor, Sapphire and MSI, just to name a few.

My XFX has worked great. Overclocks well and everything. Only bad thing is... the stock heatpaste was pretty badly applied... which lead to some high temps and stuff. And of course the stock cooler is very loud... but that's the same with all reference models.

Both my XFX 6950s and my XFX 5770 are going strong. Lifetime warranty, never had to deal with RMA though. I would recommend them!

Well I have an XFX HD-5770 ... and while it is still working just fine ... that's the last time they will see my money. I bought Sapphire for my HD-6950 card, their TOXIC Edition card is the BOMB!

XFX graphics cards tend to be cheaper than some of the other Brand names ... but IMO there IS a reason for this ... XFX is KNOWN to cheapen up the components used to build their non-referenced cards ... personally I'd rather buy a QUALITY Product from a Vendor like ASUS, MSI or SAPPhIRE (etc.) that uses QUALITY components to build their products, even though on the surface their warranties might not look as good, however when it comes time to actually have to USE the warranty ... I think these companies will honor it ... whereas I've read many complaints about XFX trying to get out of the warranty by any number of hidden / fine print type exclusions buried in their warranty clauses. Frankly people tout the XFX warranty ... but as a former Business owner for over 20 years myself I know a gimmick warranty when I see one. So buyer beware ! thumb.gif
