Yes, I also recommend spending only a small portion on a DX9 video card, unless you want to buy an eVGA one and then step up to DX10 later on, if you do plan on going that route then just go ahead and buy the 7950GX2, just make sure its eVGA and when the DX10 cards come out you can just send it back + some $$ for a DX10 card

yea, RAM and mobo makes Core 2 Duo builds a lot more expensive than AMD builds atm. Hopefully DDR3 wont be like this.

DDR RAM is quite expensive also... and it's only when you want top-notch DDR2 800 RAM.

Cheapest DDR 400 (PC3200) on Newegg: http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produc...82E16820211014 for $204.99
Cheapest DDR 500 (PC4000) on Newegg: http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produc...82E16820220084 for $239.99 (there is a cheaper one for $199.99, but it does not look good to me)

Cheap DDR2 667 (PC2 5400): http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produc...82E16820146057 for $195.99
Cheap DD2 800 (PC 6400): http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produc...82E16820231084 for $249.99

Differences are negibible.

Well what I am trying to say is that for AMD high RAM speeds dont make a huge difference. And if you want to go conroe with decent OC'ing ability and SLI, what mobo do you choose? Not many? And what RAM do you need, expensive DDR2-800? Whereas to build a similar PC with Sli for AMD, it would work out cheaper at the low end.

Good build tho Chozart.

The only reason why we pick high-end RAM for Core 2 is because it overclocks insanely! If it would have only shown a 30-40% overclock, instead of easy 50%+ overclocks, most would have gladly settled for DDR2 667. Even for AMD rigs, many pick expensive DDR 500 RAM anyways.

Ok, when you want SLI (Not recommded on Intel at the moment), prices do go up. But a good SLI board for AM2 also will cost you (don't get 939; it's a dead end, and ok, 939 will be cheaper, simply because it's dead end technology).

Thread Starter
OK i have edited my first post and I'm only at $1103.94.

I was thinking about what you all said about the DX10 and you are right.

Now i wanted to go SLI, but i was detoured from that in a prior post gone dead.

Also the EVGA card upgrade program is only for 90 days after purchase, i was told by a EVGA rep.

Now i want a kick a** card so that i can play with high res all the way. And frames per second is very important to me.

Could you throw a Nvidea suggestion out to me with a link?
Also can you give me some option on cooling my the CPU with links?
