Better to bigadv alone or SMP + GPU? - Page 4

I get nearly 18k without the adv methods. The only thing it does do is improve my PPD on SMP from 6k to 15k.

You're saying that on the 980x in your sig that gets ~60K SMP by itself with no GPUs folding, drops down to 15k PPD when folding 3 580s on advmethods? That is not right at all, look at your processes and see what each of the 3 fahcore_15.exes are using in terms of CPU. How long are you letting the CPU fold for after you make these changes before saying that it's only getting 15K? What is calculating the 15K?

Let it fold for at least 3 frames of the CPU and then look at the log and manually average the time per frame of those last three frames and then put that into this PPD Calculator. I haven't run 3 instances of the advmethods GPU folding, but when I've ran one or two of them each instance is hovering between 0-1% CPU usage of my 2600k. What I think is happening is either the PPD of the CPU is being miscalculated or not given enough time to readjust, if it's not one of those then something is really wrong because 3 instances of a process that uses between 0-1% should not take your CPU PPD from ~60k down to 15K.

Alright, thanks.

I'm dropping the OC on my GPU's back down (just to make sure I dont run into any heat related issues overnight) to the default speeds and going to let it run overnight with advmethods on the GPU's. I might not have waited long enough for the CPU to recalculate PPD. My statement earlier was just based off the PDD field that FAH v7 provides.

All I know is that with advmethods this thing is power hungry, haha.

Ah yea if it's v7 telling you that then it just hasn't given itself enough time to make a accurate estimate. if you want to see for yourself just do as I mentioned and take an average of three frames since the change where it was just folding steady with no interruptions and put that into the PPD calculator from my above post. I'd be surprised if you weren't getting around 55K PPD out of the CPU with the GPUs putting out there own 54K as well once the estimate catches up to the change.

Was hoping to have an update this morning in regards to how folding went last night, but my surge protector decided to die last night. Woke up this morning and the computer was tuned off and all the lights on the motherboard were off...had a mild panic attack.

Yep, it was just the surge protector. thumb.gif Will probably wait until the weekend to try folding again so that I can keep an eye on it.
