Xbox 360 controller purchase questions.

I don't own an xbox, I used to but it RRoD a week and a half after the 3 year warranty expired, I fixed it, then it died again and then gave up on it. SInce then I've moved to PC gaming, and my Logitech G9X, and G13 are doing a solid job. But there are those games that just feel wrong to play without a controller, mostly console ports, GFWL titles, racing/flying, braid, prototype, fable series, fallout/skyrim. I also have early signs of CT and I find I can play for hours with a controller and have zero discomfort, while K&M it's hit or miss.

I'm looking for something to replace my M$ 360 wireless controller, it's always sucked and after doing some research today I discovered it was due to the "slow" thing that they are known to suffer from. I'm tired of the wireless reciever taking up a usb port I'd rather use for something else, as well as the charge cable when the battery is low. I'd rather combine them into one cable that I just plug in when I need, and not have to worry about the controller turning off when playing BF3 so I can just pick it up when I go to fly (and often crash, but that is another story)

I've heard good and bad things about the Razor Onza's, either they are the best thing since sliced bread, or the sticks fail and it's a nightmare dealing with customer support. I don't like Mad Catz personally everything by them I've touched felt cheap, I've heard they've gotten better, but they wouldn't be my first choice.

I have had the wired controller from M$ in the past, but I traded it for my current 360 controller I couldn't get used the weight it was light, and that bothered me. I was the guy that used the origional xbox controller even though the controller-s came out and everyone raved about it, it just didn't feel comfortable in my hands. I'm about a XXL. I used to use the old xbox controller on my pc, till vista came out and the custom drivers died off.
My old controller which I bought back with my 360 elite when it first came out was honestly the best I ever owned smooth turns, buttons broke in and always responded, triggers fired every time smoothly until it stopped powering up, I bought another black wireless and the right stick drifted after about 3 months. I put up with it for like a year as I didn't use it daily, and now I'm stuck with my current POS one that I hate, but it's my only real option short of dragging my origional controller out of storage and dissasembling it to fix it.

I'm looking at the RAZR's or something else that will do the job with minimal putzing around with drivers. I'm fluent with x-padder if the game doesn't support it.

Few points to consider:

Heavier the better, I like the heft.
Whatever material the M$ controllers are made of suck they make my hands sweat when I play, no idea why but I'm always wiping my palms but I don't when playing w/ k&b
Noslo is perfered, I'm not looking to compete in any tournaments, just not have to deal with poor contruction. I'm not going to put 300+ hours on it in the first 6 months. I just want something I'm not going to have to replace in a year.

More than one sentence answers are prefered with some details if you can. I preffer to make an informed decision on this as I do with most of my electronic purchases.

As far as controllers go, I would recommend the traditional approach, which is either a wired Xbox 360 controller, or a wireless Xbox 360 controller. They aren't very expensive, and do the job very well. Compatible in just about every game that supports a gamepad smile.gif

i go with wired xbox 360 controller. I have never had any slow turn issues.

At my computer parts supplier (NCIX) the price difference between the M$ wired controller, and the Razr Onza entry level one is litereally a nickle. I've also owned the M$ wired controller and hated it for it's lack of any bulk. I'm wanting to know if the aftermarket controllers have more heft to them, or something that makes them better other than trim.

Wired M$ $39.95

Razer Onza Professional $39.99

Razer Onza Tournament $49.99

TheControllerShow.com NoSlo wired controller with better grip $97.28

Price isn't so much an option, just trying to get the best one for my needs.

My friend have an Onza and it's really good, the d-pad it's 100 times better than my 360 default controller and with how he configure his sticks i was able to aim pretty well even in Battlefield 3 tongue.gif

I think that you should try an Onza, i'm buying one myself in february biggrin.gif

Don't even bother with the Onza, the build quality is is terrible IMO. I've never seen so many controllers break in my life. Roommate is a semi-pro Halo 3 player, and if it weren't for his sponsors paying for his Onza, he would of ditched it months ago.

Classic wired Official Microsoft 360 control.

Wow i did not know Onza was garbage, my friend have a new one and it's working fine, they broke with time then? i mean my two Controllers have 5 years and they are from my Xbox 360 they were good until a year ago or so, for an easy explain, a ghost is using my Analog sticks and they move if i left the controllers alone or sometimes i have to fight with my sticks, one have the problem on the right stick and the other in the left stick tongue.gif both of them are wireless and now i'm using a wired one that i bought for my sister a year ago and it's working great for now.

I thought Onza was built to last many years more than the official frown.gif

I do like the Onza, but I have to admit, build quality isn't the best. Mine hasn't broken yet, but it just feel's incredibly light. I was going to go with the Wired 360 controller for my PC, but the day I picked up the Onza, it was on sale on amazon for 24.99.
