I go with the data on best performance, not prose from fanboys. Skinneelabs recently covered most of the top blocks in a head to head competition, and the Koolance faired pretty well. But lowfat is correct, the margin of error on this test for reproducing results on a home bench is large enough that most of these blocks are pretty much the same if your computer is not reporting out to tenths of a degree.

Well, I remember I searched a lot before buying my EK supreme HF rev 2 or 3 and it was the best for pretty much everything. Lower restriction, easy to install and it seemed to perform sightly better. Although, it is really hard to have accurate test since the results greatly vary... So you will maybe find results were another block performs better. I like EK look and it seemed to perform better so I bought it simple as that.

Why do you call fanboy? Everyone think you are fanboy when you disagree with them nowadays rolleyes.gif

Also, you should really make a bit more research on watercooling. I can almost guarantee you don't have enough raddage, I would get atleast a 320. I think it is 10-20 bucks of difference for (3/2) 150% cooling superficy!

There is a formula to determine how much Watts of energy the processor generate at a given speed & voltage. Then you can check review of the radiator to see how much watts it can dissipates dependently which fan you use (Low to High RPM).
If my memory is good, the swiftech mcr320 dissipates something like 300W with 1800 RPM fans for a delta T equivalent of 5.5C.

Delta T = difference of water temp vs air temp. Good delta T is 10, very good being 5. This will guarantee you to have good temperature even if the air is hot.

649

Edit: Image + review I found back. I don't know how much energy your CPU dissipates but mine was around 300W for 4.4GHz. I know you can't know how well your CPU will performs, but you can check on the web what is the usual voltage used to overclock it to the speed you want!
Also, I took some data from forums and put it on an exel graph. It is really feasible to determine the average voltage required to run at a certain frequency. Then you can add +x volt to give you the worst scenario. In my case the worst scenario was something like 350W and it was still < 10 Delta T

Fair point, nickname, "fanboy" does get tossed around a lot. But you've got to admit, it doesn't help your case when all you say is "I wouldn't go with Koolance." The OP's looking for help, and I think your post above clears that up though, so thanks for the help.

Watercooling isn't cheap... You are looking for a good 200-300$ for a CPU loop. I would never go for those "watercooling" kits from corsair because they don't offer the cooling performance of a real custom cooling system (the radiator is too small on the kit and the fans are noisy). Those kits are made so everyone can buy one and use it. They don't take in consideration a lot of factors because if they did, their kits would be the double of the price.

The cooling performance of a custom water system will blow up any pseudo watercooling kit however!

If you really want to go with the watercooling route, then you must first know what is the thermal input of your CPU (speed you would like to run at and voltage you are safe using/willing to use to achieve that speed).

You can extrapolate with the numbers on the graph. Two 240 equals (let's say approximatively) to a single 480 which is 4/3 a mcr 320 so about 133% the superficy of the 320. So let's say you have an input of 300W using fans @ 1600 RMP you should have a DT of 6.5 according to the graph which is good. 6.5*3/4 = 4.875 with the 420. If you have only one 240 it is 2/3 (67%) the superficy and it would bring you to a DT of 6.5*3/2 = 9.75C!

Better have more than not enough. With a single 240 you won't have much room if you want to clock higher and/or you CPU is hungry in volt.

This is going to give you a fairly nice approximation, you know what are your options, how far you will be able to go!

Thanks mate, actually that is second PC will be on water for me, first I build about 2 years ago ( Work horse on my signature) and its come out very good for me, never make above 70C with 4.2 Ghz on i7 930 on 24 hr rendering runs.... specs -
Laing DDC-Pump 12V DDC-1RT/Plus
XSPC Laing DDC Acetal Top
Swifteh Apogee XT
EK Water Blocks EK-CoolStream RAD XT 360
EK Water Blocks EK-Bay SPIN Reservoir - Acetal
Aerocool V12XT Touch Panel
Temperature sensor, filter, etc...
But I was using CM HAF 932 case for that, CM Storm Trooper do not have so much space for everything, and + LGA2011 build will come out heavy on budget, that why I want to find something between price and performance...
