[ZDNET] Apple's mind-bogglingly greedy and evil license agreement - Page 5

Apple were a good Computer Maker. now they just seem to be a money hungry machine their last 2 great achievements (IPAD2 & IPHONE 4S) were nothing but money making schemes. there is actually no difference from thei previous products. They need to start making some decent products and then charge £500 for the item, not just call it something else then charge the world for it again. SORT IT OUT APPLE.

The trade-off here is that you don't have to pay for the software, but they get a cut of all your profits. It might be greedy, but it's not as bad as you guys are making it out to be.

This. As much as I hate Apple......

No difference from the previous generation? What? Both the iPad 2 and iPhone 4S are significantly different than the iPad and iPhone 4.

I find it funny how you people, who never read the EULA in the first place, comes out and bashes on Apple when someone who "claims" that all he does is read EULAs says Apple is evil. As long as it's about Apple, all the sudden, everyone becomes EULA experts and knows off the top of his/her head that Apple's EULA is the most evil of them all.

Guess you people also conveniently didn't notice how he corrects himself again and again and again and again…

Near the end he says, "I’ll be writing more fully on this issue after I’ve had a chance to use the program and to inspect the EULA under a microscope."

Meaning, he only browsed through the EULA, like the "expert" he claims himself to be, and still haven't read through everything in detail. In another words, he jumped to conclusions along with every single one of you on this thread.

If I read it on the interwebz, it must be true! rolleyes.gif

Give yourselves a big pat on the back being the well informed netizens that you are. thumb.gif

I haven't bought an apple product since an Ipod almost burnt my apartment down 5 years ago. Their EULA's are becoming as locked down as their hardware and as someone who knows ho to exchange a PCI-E card I find their products to be directed towards people who know jack squat about the world around them and how it work.. So congrats apple for dumbing down the world a few IQ points, it will be your legacy.

EULA are such a nuisance. Who really has time to read every EULA in detail? No one that's who. I would not be surprised if there really was cent ipad clause in there some where. Also its worth remembering that just cause the EULA states it it it not always automatically legally valid. As a crude example: You put a sticker on your car that states "By fining this car you accept to pay $200 as a cleanup fee to the owner" . I'm not an expert by any means but where I live that would never fly rolleyes.gif

I think reaction to this article depends on perspective.

From a software user's perspective, this EULA is horrendously restrictive.

From a publishing perspective this is actually a pretty decent deal. If we see e-books in a similar way to print books that is. Publishing a first book and getting famous enough from it to publish a second is difficult. Very, very rarely do first-time authors get a good deal on their book, the margins they will receive from sales will be slim to none, and many publishers will require an upfront fee. It is only once an author gets some weight that they can negotiate the best deal. Basically Apple is offering completely free access to a massive market, I don't see this as anything much more than a springboard, it can get you noticed and cause a bit of a stir. After that as an individual you can choose to say not create your next book using Apple's tools, but break away and explore other publishing avenues, or they could stay with what is essentially an exclusivity contract with the iBook store and make a nice amount of money.

I'm not sure how I feel about it overall, I would hate to see more software go this way (Google tried it with Chrome if we care to remember), so I'd rather it didn't. Besides Apple will come out smelling of roses whatever thanks to the millions of iSheep.
