Exactly.

EDIT: just passed 50 Linx passes with a problem size of 25773. So if it is not the CPU that is unstable what do i need to be adjusting.

I was in a situation some years ago (2007? 2008?) where my oc was 24hrs prime stable and I would crash every time I loaded Oblivion or (can't remember which other game it was for sure but I'm thinking KOTOR), I'd CTD or BSOD. Decided to just let prime run for a while and use one of my other rigs for a bit. Sure as shale, 37 or so hours into prime it gave me an error. I adjusted the OC a bit and was good to go from then on. It happens... and stress tests like prime or linx don't necessary emulate or replicate an exact issue you're having, their function is different. GL

I highly recommend you bring your entire rig back to stock by loading optimized defaults and using your computer regularly as you would. I guarantee you will no longer have the issues you're speaking of.

Yep rig is back at stock and i am working my way back up to 4GHz trying to figure out want is giving me problems
post #15 of 22
Well, before you overclock again, I would wait and see if your issues stop, that way you know it was the overclock that was your issue smile.gif

I didn't do long term tests but prime 95 + heaven + music which would have crashed my computer instantly at 4GHz ran without problems for 30 min so. As I have been overclocking I start to get audio problems when the QPI/Dram voltage is low.

I stopped at 3.4 and i am running stress tests to make sure the CPU is okay. Tomorrow I will do some testing with prime 95 + heaven + music.
Well, it seems you've identified your issue, which is an unstable overclock. Let us know how things work out for you when you get your rig nice and stable smile.gif

Yea thanks for the help I just hope I can figure out what it was so I can get it back up to 3.8-4GHz.

Ok so another odd update the problem might be solved but only time will tell.

After stress testing at 3.4GHz for 16 hours i went back to prime 95+heaven and got a crash almost instantly. Pissed I went back to bone stock with everything on auto. Booted again tried prime95+heaven and again another crash. mad.gif So now i am thinking it must be hardware again and since i have been having problems with the memory controller i start taking out memory sticks and trying them individually. All the sticks work so i put them all back in and start the computer. I try prime95+heaven and all is good for about 10 minutes then it crashes. gunner.gif I am thinking I want to kill this thing.

So now that i have had the computer apart i am thinking it might be temp related and the only thing I can think of that might be having problems at stock is my HX1000W. If any of you don't know it is an early 1000W design and is closer to to 500w units than a true 1000W.
Well as last i switch my GPU over to the second 12V rail and the crashing stops. I have had the power supply for 3? years and have folded on it with a gtx285 and i7 920 for about a year so I guess it is getting old.

I am now back at my old 4GHz setting running prime95+heaven+music and so far it is fine about 30 min in.
