[BF3] Gaming related upgrade or change

My current specs

Processor - Intel E5300 2.6Ghz (Stock)
Motherboard - Gigabyte G31-ES2L
Graphic Card - MSI 4670
Case - Cooler Master 310
Monitor - Dell 1909 (1440x900)
Ram - Kingston 2GB DDr2

With this configuration i get fps of 15-20 while playing online at completely low settings but this low fps is hampering my kills as sometimes the environment is so heavy the fps drops to 8-10. What i was thinking is to make some tight and worthy changes in this present configuration so i can play BF3 atleast at medium settings with minimum fps of 40-45.

What i have in my mind?
1) Replace cpu+mobo+ram with i3 2100/new mobo/4gb ram (keeping 4670 with it but will it be possible to play at medium settings then?)

2) Replace just the graphics card with 6850 at least and then OC the processor to 3.3GHz (my proccy is stable at that speed and will it still bottleneck the gpu?)

Get the new GPU and OC the CPU. That will help you ALOT.

Well your best bet would be the first two options as RAM is dirt cheap right now and a good OC can increase performance drastically.

I would go with the GPU upgrade. My friend has an i5 sandy bridge set up with your graphics card and struggles to run BF3 at acceptable frame rates.

Thank you thats what i was waiting to hear (from experience) because i have seen BF3 reviews and there is no effect of extra cpu cores on this game, it is more about gpu performance.

Sorry i mistaken your post, you can see that i edited my post few secs after reading your post again. Upgrading RAM from 2gb to 4gb wih gpu upgrade is best option for me(+cpu oc).

Final query, which gfx card should i go with if my budget is ~150$ ?
