PS3 Locking up.

Thread Starter
My son has the 80Gig model PS3. Had if for several years with no problem. Right now its 60Gig full and he's starting to get lock-ups in the middle of games. Only solution is to reboot.

Does anyone have any ideas whats going on? Possible fix?

Could be overheating, might want to take it apart and clean out the dust, that's my best guess for ya.

Definately for this, The old fat models had more than a few heat issues, its either that or wait for it to die and pay sony to repair it, I think sonys repair service is like $150 for the PS3 no matter the problem. Also some of the older games had issues that caused the system to lock up, (Madden 2007 im talking about you) and some PS2 games that arent compatbile with the software BC of the 80GB models. If cleaning the system dont fix it I would look for a new hard drive, pretty much any Sata 2.5 Laptop hard drives will fit, but its best to stick to 5400 rpm models if your worried about heat in the system

I checked on the Playstation Forum regarding lock-ups. Problem is well known. It was mentioned to Rebuild the Data base. I did that and for the past two weeks, not one lock up.

I would say...Not a heat problem, not a HDD problem, not a Blu Ray problem.

"Rebuild the Database"

Care to elaborate? This interest me.

Thanks for a link!

I was in that menu when I up-sized my HDD capacity and never noticed the rebuild database option before.

From what I gathered, I guess it is kind of like a fresh install of the software but without the loss of important data.
