For me which i splay 1440p single GPU is NEVER a option. I have to turn setting down yo get 60fps+. The whole Single vs Dual GPU does not exist in my world. I have used HD 6970 for 2560x1440 and its was lag fest. Even HD 7970 which just came out will not provide adduce fps in relevance to its pricing. I dont like people that drop Dual GPUs like HD 6950/70, GTX470/80/570/80 just so they can get a Single strong GPU [Because they dont want to deal with CF/SLI problems] and then come 6 months latter asking id he/she should get a second card for CF/SLI. To pme people that go CF and SLI are thriving for performance and not wining about problems. Kind of like having a custom build car { daa it will be less reliable } but it will cost to get that performance out a factory build car.

So true. thumb.gif

Having a 2560x1440 resolution a SLI/CF (Or dual GPU) is a must if you want to max latest games at +60fps at all times. rolleyes.gif

Yes I see you're point there. This is the 1st time since sli 9800GTs I have a single card setup. I think I wanted to move away from xfire because of the godawful skyrim issue this year with ATI, among other games.
Will I go xfire again? Probably, but did not jump in and buy 2 cards as more cautious about xfire of late and of course launch drivers/issues always a concern. I am a fan of xfire/sli, but I don't understand why people cannot just let it go and stop comparing old tech to new.
Are there issues with multi gpu setups? Yes. Are those issues big enough to stop you going the multi gpu route again? For me, probably not. I will give in.

By the way snuff -- A moderator around here is getting a GTX 580 cheaper than your 5850's. I hope you're more practical with your purchases in the future when you can get them.

*Waits for his long bashing post*

You speak the truth.

The main downside of the 5870 is having just a gig. The EF6 edition stands up to the 6970 in most cases. Well, except when tessellation is involved, then the 5870 falls to the 6970's knees.

I think the 1gb of ram was not the only issue. xfire scaling was nowhere as good as the 6 series when they came out. DX11 was much improved with the 6 series also. Loved my 5870s, but the 6 series was a needed improvement.

I'm not going to bother reading through all the pages to check if it has been said or not. But a 6990 is not two 6970s but if I am correct it is two 6950s or maybe even lower. Also the 590 is not two 580s. Asus release MARS edition of cards, they are two of the top single GPU cards from Nvidia. For example Asus MARS 580= 580x2. Also the ATI version of such a thing would be a 5870x2 not a 5990. If you even look at prices it doesn't make sense. Two 580s are way more expensive than a 590. 1 590 is around 700-800 dollars if I am correct. 2 580s are 500 a piece.

You spend more money on your computer than the average person, and that's okay, clearly you don't bother to read, and that is okay as well. Also your math sucks $120+$150, does not equal $350, it's $270... And the double lifetime warranties from XFX are quite nice, and when I'm done with them I'll give them to my step father to play around with, and he'll enjoy them. He's running my old Phenom X2 555 BE and enjoying skyrim as well.
I'm not even remotely, and you've just proven how much of a moron you are.

Also fyi, xfire HD5850s are not as good as a HD7970. Both heavily overclocked.
HD7970 is on par/better than HD6950s xfire. Both heavily overclocked.
How do I know? I have had xfire 5850s,5870s,6950s. Proof?
Check my benchmarks a few pages back.
Did I say that 5850's were as good as 7970's? No I said that cards two generations out of date can be on par with it.
Also who cares? I play the games, they look good and they run smoothly. My point is that 80% of the people out there have no need for it, and your smug albeit misplaced superiority just proves as I stated before that your a moron.

lol just winding you up about the u mad bro, relax.

They are not on par. 6950s overclocked are on par, 5850s are not. You are saying who cares, you are the one who brought up people are fools to buy the 7970. And this is OCN, home of enthusiasts.
Don't like it, leave.

Oh yeah, YOU MAD BRO? tongue.gif: wink.gif

Yes this moron can spell better than you also!

I don't bother to read the whole conversation, but from the "u mad bro?" , tells me you're an immature idiot.
OCN is the home of PC enthusiasts, not childish idiots who HAS to pick on other members.
Can't act like a grown up? Leave.

6990=2x6970s at lower clocks.
590=2x580s are MUCH lower clocks

Individual cards are more expensive because run higher clocks, 2 will out perform any single gpu card at stock and will (generally) have much move OC room.
