socket 939 barebone

Thread Starter
does anyone have a good reference on where to look for a good socket 939 barebone kit? weighing my options of AMD duel core or intel duel core.. vs. price.

i really wanna spend under 1,000 and could transfer a lot of my already owned hardware like harddrive and stuff

For $1,000 you can build a nice rig. No need to look for a barebone kit. Just collect parts yourself and have a go at it.

What parts are you re-using?

Including case, PSU, but no HDD, optical, input, monitor:
Total: $971.96 + $29.05 shipping = $1,001.01

Close enough to budget?

I know the RAM is insanely expensive, but it's great stuff! Don't spend too much on the video card right now, given DX10.

My first system was a barebone, it was a good start as I got to put some parts in myself. I had never ever built a comp before. But over time I decided to expand and thats where OC.net came into play. This site made me strive for more so over time I slowly bought new parts, and by the end I had a whole new comp and took my barebone kit and built a LAN rig out of it so nothing goes to waste.

A good place to look for a barebone system is www.monarchcomputers.com hands down. They pretty much built a custom comp for you but save you the time.

Sorry.. did not even answer the question. Good one Pink

Some suggested parts for a socket 939 rig (although I'd advise against it)

MoBo: ASUS A8R32-MVP Deluxe Socket 939 $144.99
CPU: AMD Opteron 165 Denmark 1.8GHz Socket 939 $229.99
RAM: Patriot 2GB (2 x 1GB) 184-Pin DDR 500 $239.99
Video: SAPPHIRE 100189L Radeon X1900GT 256MB GDDR3 $199.99
PSU: Antec TRUEPOWERII TPII-550 ATX12V 550W $89.99
Case: COOLER MASTER Centurion 5 CAC-T05-UW Black Aluminum $44.99

Total: $949.94 + $29.54 shipping = $979.48
