Board manufacturers tend to only use as many VRM's are needed at specified temperatures to run factory speeds.

Haven't tried GPU Tool yet, but I will tomorrow & see what happens.

Think I might order some 0.5mm Phobya Thermal pad Ultra 5W anyway and replace the tape that's on there atm.

Unless anyone can recommend a different thickness / brand instead?

Anyone plan to put a pair of kuhlers on a 690?

At this price I think you might as well get new sinks for your VRM's

On a cool day the mod works really well, on warmer days, temps seem to increase quickly and perform only just a tiny bit better than the stock cooler. Obviously the lack of sound makes it worthwhile too.

Hmm something is different in your setup...

At my max overclock, 1.150v @ 930Mhz I'll reach 54C. I think I saw 56C but my case was 26C...hottest its ever been. Typically under stock config I'll load around ~46C. What fans do you have on your 620? I've got a push, scythe slipstream, and pull stock antec. The antec is 100% all the time and the slipstream is on a fan controller.

I'm quite happy about the temps my 580 puts out, just sad I don't get a better overclock...

i have a single Artic F fan on my 620 radiator, which is rated at 57CFM. No room for push / pull

Im thinking of taking the block off one more time and try to lap it better and maybe use more TIM but id need some tips as i thought i already did a good job of it. Diamond IC 7 is too expensive to keep buying and only lasts for 2 or 3 applications. My local store only stocks artic silver 5 so might have to switch over to that if i do redo it. Only want to redo it if im NOT getting temps that i should with this mod??

Surely if you're running cooler than the stock heatsink, and with less noise, then that's a good thing?

The table on the first page shows load temps from 40-62c, so you fall within that range atm.

Be happy it is quieter & cooler considering it's overvolted & overclocked? smile.gif

Yeah, maybe i have too high expectations in relation to temperatures. My room was freezing cold last night and i was 24c idle and about 57c /58c under load on 1GHZ core. Normal room temps its more 30c idle and 65 - 68c load temps though when gaming. Just seems high compared to other people who have done the mod?

See what temps you get at stock clocks / voltage, and compare it to what has been posted on the first page?

I've not read the whole thread so I've no idea if anyone else is running 1ghz on their 580.
stock i get 30c idle and about 52ishc under load.

950mhz core and 1000mhz core only have a 1 or 2 c difference between them which i find a little odd.

Before i did my lapping and used to have cable ties, i saw an idle of around 23c and load temp of 55c with 1ghz, but again it was in the front now in the back as it is now.

Hehe he he

My heart just skipped a beat.

I was going to skip the 600 series ( if i came to be able to afford one )... but now i think If i can scrounge up $900 $999, I just might not skip GTX690. I'm going to keep my 470, and my money, for now...

Think you can make a double bracket with fan mount between them?
