I plan on doing "the mod" on my new 670, whats the best brand to buy? I was going to wait for the ASUS DC2T but whats the point if im going to rip the cooler off? i need one where I can attach the cooler ontop of the PCB and still let the stock fan cool the VRMs, any ideas? rolleyes.gif

Gathering parts for my mod(sli gtx-580's), and just looking for ideas on how I should go about powering and controlling fans and the cooler.
You don't want to do that mate.
1. It's a PWM header, so it'll throttle the voltage and could damage the pump.
2. IIRC the headers on GPU's have a lower ampere rating than regular fan headers so it probably won't power it anyway.

Just plug it into a free header on your motherboard, or if you need to, run it off MOLEX using a 3-pin to 4-pin adapter.

Thanks for the info, i thought that would be the case but haven't been able to find any info saying yes or no. So the antec 620 is designed to run full voltage all the time i assume, does it have its own internal regulator? Or does it just run the same speed regardless of temp?

How about the vrm fan? Does anyone power a pwm fan from the video cards pcb?

I really like the idea of controlling something from the cards pcb, or atleast powering it there. It would be less wiring, and leave more headers open on the motherboard for case fans.

Im also entertaining the idea of a fan controller, which ones do you guys recommend?

The H620's fan speed is regulated on basis of the temperature of the water running through the system. Unless I'm misinformed.
Overall the fan is not louder then your case fans (unless you have very quiet case fans wink.gif )

As for the vrm fan, you could connect it to the header on the cards PCB. Per default it would be regulated on basis on the GPU temperature. Would be could if you could tell it to regulate on basis of the vrm temp. But I never heard of such a thing.

I hadn't realized that the 620's fan was just a 2 plug voltage regulated from the pump, so from the research I've done you are informed well, thanks for confirming it smile.gif

I over think things a lot lol.

I decided I'll just run the vrm fans full blast all the time, its more wiring to hide but seems to be the safe thing to do. I also realized(unless I am mistaken) that I cannot see the vrm temp on my evga Fermi 580 cards without a temp sensing fan controller, which is lame. Everything is in the mail now,i'll be posting pics and benchmarks when I'm done, can't wait to start I love hacking stuff smile.gif

so heres my set up and a quick guide if any one wants to use the existing bracket from the 620 just takes a little bit of cutting really easy

450
Heres what you need! 580 gtx, intel bracket, 4 - 3mm x 25 mm screw with complimenting nuts, 4 rubber washers. This is the lay out!

450
Traced and measured so i know were to put the holes! 58.4mm x 58.4mm is what it is between the holes on a 580 gtx.

450
450
Holes Drilled

450
Cut off excess feet

450
Next Mounting

450
Screws in with rubber washer on other side

450
Test fit

I get around 47-48C under full load @ 900core @ 1.1v and around 27-28C idle.]

So I rma'd that card because it showed up as a gtx 560ti with 480 cores and I got my new one back today and it clocks a lot better.

359359[338338

The card idles around 30-31C which is pretty good and the max temps I've seen are around 53-55C but I'm hoping to lower them a bit with some Arctic Cooling MX-4 TIM.

Hey, my pump also made that annoying sound, but after a bout a week it went away. Give it some time to get the air bubbles out and it should stop.
