[Official] NVIDIA GPU Mod Club - AKA "The Mod" - Page 169

I just decided to test my Antec 620 today. The pump is making a buzzing noise; is that normal?
edit: I think it was air; it is running with a quiet buzzing noise now that I expect from a pump.

I just did the mod; I got a ten degree drop running kombustor, and I can run furmark without being terrified now. It turns out that you have to put a fair amount of mounting pressure on the cold plate or else it won't be at all effective.

The best part of this was that doing the mod took me 20 minutes; trying to install a single fan on the top of my case took me 30 lol

Also, I think I broke my wireless card; I have no idea how, but for some reason my computer can't detect any wireless networks and keeps telling e to plug in an ethernet cable. Whatever, I hated that card anyway; Has anyone had success using a powerline connection?

IMO, I think you're much better off with wireless N if you've got it.
My buddy has Powerline, and absolutely hates it.
He's limiting his connection from 12MBPs into the modem and into the router, to 1.5mbps through powerline.

Unless you get the really high quality powerline ones... which are insanely expensive, I think it's more effective to do wireless N.

I finally convinced him to grab a wireless N adapter, so we'll see..

Lol I just realized that I installed the fan on the cooler backwards, so I had two fans blowing in opposite directions. It sadly worked better than the stock cooler anyway. With the fan direction fixed, I am getting 72 degrees in furmark, which is much better than the stock cooler, with which I had to turn off furmark out of fear of overheating.

It is possible that I have some driver error with my wireless card; it just suddenly doesn't work; it was getting a ton of random connectivity errors before this happened. What would OCN recommend for a wireless card with a long range?

Edit: the wireless card appears to be connected; there's probably some software issues. Sorry if I am hijacking the thread with this.

An Ethernet cable. tongue.gif

I just use a AE1000 usb adapter. Works well, no throughput issues that I can observe.

And they can be had for cheap refurbed.

I guess I'll try that; I have wanted to get rid of this thing since the day I bought it anyway.

edit: I bought a new wireless card; it's an asus pcie x1 card. It doesn't seem to be disconnecting from the internet randomly, so it works. pretty hard to fit it under the antec 620's tubing.

What setting should the squirrel cage fan be set to to prevent the VRMs from overheating?
